〇　切花も蔓あれハ右のごとし又花計り
　なれハ茎（くき）の本より蔕（へた）一分下迄右様の土に
　正直（まつすぐ）に差置べし前□よりするよし是
　ハよき日当りの所より五寸　脇（わき）の陰（かげ）《割書：ニ｜》置べし
〇　種取かねるにおもふ花を上に立その
　つる先を下へとし置べし或ハあり蟻等のぼり
　てたねとれずハ翌咲花をくゝりて咲
　たるやうにすべし
　春日野のゝ辺のあさかほ面影
　にみえつゝ妹ハ忘れかねつもと家
　持公のよませ給ひしハ槿花なり新
　撰字鏡にハ桔梗をさへあさかほよ
　ませしをおもへハ朝に咲て夕に
　うつらふ花をはミな朝貌と云し
　かともおもはる今世にもてはや□朝顔

現代語訳

○ 切り花も蔓があれば右の通りである。また花だけの場合は、
茎の根元から蕾の一分下まで、右様の土に
まっすぐに挿しておくべきである。前の方法によるのが良い。これは
良い日当たりの場所から五寸、脇の陰に置くべきである。

○ 種を取りたいと思う花を上に立て、その
蔓の先端を下に向けて置くべきである。または蟻などが登って
種が取れない場合は、翌日咲く花を縛って咲いた
ようにするべきである。

春日野の野辺の朝顔、面影に
見えつつ妹は忘れかねつも

と大伴家持公が詠まれたのは槿花（木槿）である。新撰字鏡には
桔梗さえも朝顔と詠んでいることを思えば、朝に咲いて夕に
しぼむ花をみな朝顔と言ったのかとも思われる。
今の世にもてはやされる朝顔

英語訳

○ For cut flowers, if there are vines, follow the same method as above. If there are only flowers,
insert them straight into the same type of soil from the base of the stem
down to one bu below the calyx. The previous method is good. These should
be placed in shade five sun away from a good sunny location.

○ For flowers from which you want to collect seeds, place the flower upright and
point the vine tip downward. Or if ants climb up and
prevent seed collection, tie the next day's flower buds to make them appear
as if they have bloomed.

What Lord Ōtomo no Yakamochi composed refers to mukuge (rose of Sharon). The Shinsen Jikyō even
calls kikyo (bellflower) "asagao," so it seems that
flowers that bloom in the morning and wither by evening were all
called "asagao." The morning glories celebrated in today's world
