　てふものハ古今集の物の名に希に
　こしとよめるものにて其花ハ辨
　のもろき其色のことなるを志那
　より最おかしかれハ是にのミ其名
　を負セしハこへなりかしされハ此
　頃さ□□の器に移し植てもて
　あそふことくハなりにたりわれはたゝ
　此花を好める心深きからにはやふ
　ハなの萎めるかいとかなしうおほへて
　これを画に写させて終に□に
　さへえらせしハ時わかすめつらん
　とてなりけり

現代語訳

というものは古今集の物の名に「まれに
越し」と詠まれたものであって、その花は花弁が
もろく、その色が異なるのを支那（中国）
より最も興味深いので、これにのみその名を
負わせたのは理由があることだ。されば、この
頃は様々な器に移し植えて
遊ぶことが盛んになった。私はただ
この花を好む心が深いので、早く
花が萎むのがとても悲しく思われて、
これを絵に写させて、ついには歌に
さえ詠ませたのは、時を忘れるほど
夢中になったからである。

英語訳

These flowers are what was referred to as "rarely crossed over" in the Kokin Wakashū anthology. Their flowers have
fragile petals, and their varied colors from China
being most fascinating, there is good reason why this name alone was
bestowed upon them. Therefore, in recent times
it has become popular to transplant them into various containers for
enjoyment. Since I have such a deep love for
these flowers, I find it very sad when
they wither quickly, so I had them painted in pictures
and even composed into poems because I became so
absorbed that I lost track of time.
