　大納言頼宣卿も密に御領内へ可参由被仰藤
　堂和泉守殿ゟも懇切に招き度々あり人池田輝
　政之家老若原右京も若立身之望有は可相
　談と云け連共皆同辞て終に利誘に落以ら須
　人の臣として他家之板に従はゝ拙しと春へき事
　なるを其比之風俗かく有し中に壱岐此風俗に
　従はさ里しは稟性に男儀を兼たりしにや

天草軍記曰十二月廿九日島原表風聞当表一

　揆次第に再興に付先月廿七日於江戸松平伊
　豆守信総戸田左門氏銕討手之　上使被仰
　付同月廿九日令出府夜を日々継て急来大方
　明々日当表可令着陣と云々諸陣此義を聞て
　云そ免き候処同日晩参に井伊掃部頭直孝之
　飛脚板倉内膳正方へ来る右之段実正之由板
　倉周防守宗重之使者も令参着是又内膳正
　へ密談之飛札と云々
勇功記曰御老中松平伊豆守殿為　上使重
　而被下向之由廿九日之晩比に至而有馬表へ聞へ

現代語訳

大納言頼宣卿（紀伊大納言）も密かに「御領内へ参るべし」との由を仰せられ、藤堂和泉守殿からも懇切な招きが度々あった。人見池田輝政の家老である若原右京も「もし立身の望みがあれば相談に応じよう」と言ったが、皆同様に断って、ついに利益による誘いに落ちることはなかった。人の臣として他家の配下に従うのは拙いことであるべきなのに、その頃の風俗はこのようであった中で、壱岐がこの風俗に従わなかったのは、生まれつき男らしい義理を兼ね備えていたからであろうか。

二十九日癸亥
『天草軍記』に曰く、十二月二十九日、島原表の風聞によると、当地の一揆が次第に再興したため、先月二十七日に江戸において松平伊豆守信綱・戸田左門氏鉄が討手の上使を仰せ付けられ、同月二十九日に出府し、夜を日に継いで急ぎ来たので、大方明後日には当地に着陣するであろうとのことである。諸陣はこのことを聞いて「そうであろう」と言ったところ、同日晩に井伊掃部頭直孝の飛脚が板倉内膳正のもとへ来た。右の段は実際に正しいとの由で、板倉周防守宗重の使者も参着した。これもまた内膳正への密談の飛札であるという。
『勇功記』に曰く、御老中松平伊豆守殿が上使として重ねて下向される由が、二十九日の晩頃に至って有馬表へ聞こえた。

英語訳

Dainagon Yorinobu (the Kii Dainagon) also secretly conveyed that he should "come to the domain," and there were frequent cordial invitations from Todo Izuminokami as well. Wakahara Ukyo, a senior retainer of Ikeda Terumasa, also said, "If you have aspirations for advancement, I can arrange consultations," but he declined all of these in the same manner, and ultimately did not succumb to inducements of profit. While it should be improper for a person's retainer to serve under another house, such was the custom of those times. That Iki did not follow this custom was perhaps because he was naturally endowed with manly righteousness.

Twenty-ninth day, Mizunoto-i
The "Amakusa War Chronicle" states: On the twenty-ninth day of the twelfth month, according to rumors from Shimabara, since the local rebellion was gradually being revived, on the twenty-seventh day of last month in Edo, Matsudaira Izunokami Nobutsuna and Toda Samonnokami Ujitetsu were appointed as imperial envoys for the subjugation force. They departed on the twenty-ninth day of the same month, hurrying day and night, and it is said they will likely arrive and establish camp at this location the day after tomorrow. When the various camps heard this, they said it seemed likely. That same evening, a messenger from Ii Kambunokashira Naotaka came to Itakura Naizen-no-sho. This matter was reported as actually true, and a messenger from Itakura Suonokami Muneshige also arrived. This too was said to be a confidential letter to Naizen-no-sho.
The "Record of Brave Deeds" states: Word that the Senior Councilor Matsudaira Izunokami would again descend as an imperial envoy reached Arima by around the evening of the twenty-ninth day.
