万世家譜《割書：石谷｜十蔵》曰諸手之仕寄城近く付寄足
　入之地も路を作り惣責之支度出来に付元日惣
　責可仕段十二月晦日諸手へ申渡候
天草軍記曰十二月晦日内膳正方へ諸陣之面々
　呼集申渡趣近日江戸ゟ伊豆守左門令下着候
　昨夜実説を聞届候此衆参着候而大軍を以
　早速当城を被攻落候はゝ各我に無面目次第
　に候唯今迄は手負死人味方無之様に成して
　悪徒等を可令退治と存其方便に心得来候得共

　最早不及其儀与存候明日は元三に而敵共よもや
　此祝日には不寄来与可存間油断之處を押掛
　未明ゟ可攻入候各一情御出し候而是非共明
　朔日より無二無三に働頼入候由被申候處何茂
　畏入候成程御尤之思召之由被領掌候追手
　之先陣有馬兵部太輔其外攻衆は松倉
　鍋島立花等也有馬勢は先日之城攻は先
　手ふ仕候故今日は先手を被申付候然所何と
　して知るやらん明朔日又惣攻可望之由今晦
　日之夜敵方へ洩聞へ候由

晦日甲子

万世家譜（石谷十蔵）によると、諸隊の攻撃準備が城に近く設置され、足場となる地点にも道を作り、総攻撃の準備が整ったので、元日に総攻撃を行う旨を十二月晦日に諸隊へ申し渡した。

天草軍記によると、十二月晦日、内膳正の陣営へ諸陣の面々を呼び集めて申し渡した内容は次の通りである。「近日、江戸から伊豆守・左門が下向してくる。昨夜その確実な情報を聞いた。この者たちが到着して大軍をもって早速この城を攻め落とすようなことになれば、各々我々にとって面目を失うことになる。今までは味方に手負いや死人が出ないようにして悪徒らを退治しようと考え、その方便を心得てきたが、

もはやそのような手段は及ばないと思う。明日は元日で、敵どもはまさかこの祝日には攻めて来まいと思っているであろうから、油断しているところを襲いかかり、未明から攻め入ろう。各々一心に出陣して、ぜひとも明日の元日から一心不乱に戦ってほしい」と申されたところ、皆恐縮し、「なるほどもっともな思し召しです」と承知した。追手の先陣は有馬兵部太輔、その他の攻撃軍は松倉・鍋島・立花等である。有馬勢は先日の城攻めでは先手を務めたので、今日は先手を申し付けられた。ところが、どのようにして知ったのか、明日元日にまた総攻撃を行う予定である旨が、今日晦日の夜に敵方へ漏れ聞こえたという。

Last night I received reliable information about this. If these men arrive and quickly capture this castle with a large army, it will be a great disgrace for all of us. Until now, we have tried to devise methods to suppress the rebels while avoiding casualties and deaths among our allies, and we have conducted ourselves with this approach in mind.

However, I believe such methods are no longer sufficient. Tomorrow is New Year's Day, and the enemies will surely think that we would not attack on such a festive day, so we will strike while they are off guard and launch our assault from before dawn. I ask each of you to commit wholeheartedly and fight with single-minded determination starting tomorrow, New Year's Day." When this was said, everyone humbly accepted, saying "Indeed, this is a most reasonable decision." The vanguard of the pursuit force was Arima Hyōbu-Taiyu, and the other attacking forces were Matsukura, Nabeshima, Tachibana, and others. Since the Arima forces served as the vanguard in the previous castle assault, they were again assigned to lead today. However, somehow the enemy learned of the plan for another general assault tomorrow, New Year's Day, and this information leaked to the enemy side on this New Year's Eve night.
