勇功記曰正月元日漸横雲たなびく頃松倉築山
　に於て相図之石火矢を打とひとしく久留米
　勢五百挺之鉄炮を津るべ鬨を上け幅七八間
　之所を横一面に成而取かくる忠郷茂竹橋を
　渡り給ひ一段高き所に　机を居ら連透間を
　あらせ須可攻取与頻りに下知を被加先手与
　旗本相去る事纔尓五十間斗有け連共此時者
　未た暗に依て先手早城中江乗入多るやうに

切支丹御退治記　巻之十九

勇功記によると、正月元日、ようやく横雲がたなびく頃、松倉が築山において合図の石火矢（のろし）を打ち上げると同時に、久留米勢五百挺の鉄砲を一斉に撃ち、鬨の声を上げた。幅七、八間ほどの場所を横一面に陣形を整えて取り囲んだ。忠郷も竹橋を渡って、一段高い所に陣机を据え、矢継ぎ早に命令を出し、「速やかに攻め取るべし」と頻りに下知を加えた。先手と旗本との間は僅か五十間ほどしか離れていなかった。しかし、この時はまだ夜明け前で暗かったため、先手が早々と城中へ乗り入れたかのように見えた。

According to the Record of Heroic Deeds, on New Year's Day, when horizontal clouds were just beginning to drift across the sky, Matsukura fired signal flares from his fortified position. Simultaneously, five hundred matchlocks of the Kurume forces fired in unison, raising battle cries. They formed a horizontal battle line across an area about seven to eight ken wide, surrounding the target. Tadamura also crossed the bamboo bridge and set up his field desk on elevated ground, issuing rapid-fire commands and frequently ordering "Attack and take it quickly!" The vanguard and the main force were separated by only about fifty ken. However, since it was still dark before dawn at this time, it appeared as though the vanguard had already rushed into the castle.
