　　由承候夜明塀際に者人見之不申内膳殿十
　　蔵殿御両人なから玄蕃仕寄持口取之儀与
　　承候伝蔵殿丹波殿松平甚三郎殿此衆も鍋
　　島与玄蕃あひ尓御入候右之御衆さへも内
　　膳殿重蔵殿御事無御存知与御申候間拙者
　　不存は古と者らと存候其後十蔵殿我等所
　　江御出候て今日之様子内膳殿十蔵殿壱人
　　に働を可仕との義に而毛頭無之候有馬玄
　　蕃人数余無勢に候間崩候刻是非共押返し
　　候得無左候者々夫に而茂進不申候故無是

　　非御懸候由我等江御物語候松倉人数も殊
　　之外草臥候間竹束之番茂事成間敷候間我
　　等者共江茂松倉手前之番をさせ候得与被
　　仰候間三日之日迄番をさせ其内竹束之竹
　　壱本に而も敵にさせらせ不申候尤手前之
　　儀者不及申随分堅く申付候玄蕃松倉人数
　　は其夜も竹束取ら連候由風聞申候刻三日
　　過候而ゟ松倉に渡す松倉手前に而も竹束
　　少々とら連候承候

ということを承りました。夜明けに塀際には人を見かけませんでしたが、内膳殿・十蔵殿お二人とも玄蕃の仕寄せ持ち口を取る儀と承りました。伝蔵殿・丹波殿・松平甚三郎殿、この衆も鍋島と玄蕃と一緒にお入りになりました。右の御衆でさえも内膳殿・重蔵殿の御事をご存じないと仰せになりましたので、拙者が存じないのは当然のことと存じます。その後十蔵殿が我等の所へお出でになって、「今日の様子では、内膳殿・十蔵殿一人で働きをなすべきという義理では毛頭ありません。有馬玄蕃の人数があまりに無勢でしたので崩れた刻、是非とも押し返すべきでしたが、そうでなくても進まなかったので、やむを得ずお掛けになった」由を我等にお物語になりました。松倉の人数も殊の外草臥れましたので、竹束の番も事が成らないでしょうから、我等の者共にも松倉手前の番をさせてください」と仰せになりましたので、三日の日まで番をさせ、その内竹束の竹一本でも敵にさせることはありませんでした。もちろん手前の儀については申すまでもなく、随分堅く申し付けました。玄蕃・松倉の人数はその夜も竹束を取られたという風聞がありました刻、三日過ぎてから松倉に渡しました。松倉手前でも竹束を少々取られたと承りました。

鍋島家書上に曰く「寛永十五年正月朔日寅刻より信濃

This is what I learned. At dawn, no one was seen near the fence area, but I understood that both Lord Naizen and Lord Jūzō were to take charge of Gemba's siege works. Lord Denzō, Lord Tanba, and Lord Matsudaira Jinzaburō - these lords also entered together with Nabeshima and Gemba. Even these distinguished lords said they did not know about Lord Naizen and Lord Jūzō's affairs, so it is natural that I would not know either. Later, Lord Jūzō came to our place and told us: "Given today's situation, there was absolutely no obligation for Lord Naizen and Lord Jūzō to fight alone. Since Arima Gemba's forces were so few in number and collapsed, we should have definitely pushed them back, but since they wouldn't advance even without that, there was no choice but to attack." He also said, "Matsukura's forces are extremely exhausted, so they probably cannot properly guard the bamboo bundles. Please let our men also take turns guarding Matsukura's front." So we had them stand guard until the third day, and during that time, not even a single bamboo stick from the bundles was taken by the enemy. Of course, regarding our own affairs, it goes without saying that we gave strict orders. When there were rumors that Gemba and Matsukura's forces had their bamboo bundles taken that night as well, we handed them over to Matsukura after the third day had passed. I heard that even at Matsukura's front, some bamboo bundles were taken.
