次第に強天地を返如く所々大木大家崩落候響中々譬に品も
なく御城悉ゆり崩申候御城内御蔵四拾八ケ所皆潰申候其
外御住居向御家中寺社堂塔崩落泣呼声夥事に而中々
筆紙に難尽川中島方角別而ゆり強岩倉山と申麓に流申
犀川に崩入其外佐久郡伊 素（奈）郡は大海之如く一面に相成申候

松代御領内の御城下・在郷・江戸とも当月中頃から昼夜にわたり発光現象が時々起こり、雷鳴も格別強いというほどではありませんでしたが、御府内並びに屋代・戸倉辺り・小県郡辺りにかけて一日中絶えることなく響き渡っておりました。去る二十三日夜、御城下の御祈願所である浜科八幡宮の社内にある神木で、十四五抱えもある楠の大木が四五間上のところから理由もなく折れました。神社の人や下社家まで怪我人が多く、即死三人がございました。
そうしたところ、翌二十四日夜四時頃から地震が揺り出し、次第に強くなって天地をひっくり返すように所々の大木や大家が崩落する響きは、とても例えようもありません。御城は悉く揺り崩れ、御城内の御蔵四十八ヶ所は皆潰れました。その外、御住居向き・御家中・寺社・堂塔が崩落し、泣き叫ぶ声が夥しく、とても筆紙に尽くし難いものです。川中島方角は別して揺りが強く、岩倉山という麓に流れる犀川に崩れ入り、その外佐久郡・伊奈郡は大海のように一面になりました。

In the Matsushiro domain territory, including the castle town, rural areas, and Edo, since the middle of this month, luminous phenomena have been occurring day and night intermittently. Thunder was not particularly strong, but it resonated continuously throughout the day across the government district, the Yashiro-Togura area, and the Chiisagata district. On the night of the 23rd, at the Hamashina Hachiman Shrine, which serves as a prayer site for the castle town, a sacred camphor tree so large it would take fourteen to fifteen people to embrace it broke inexplicably from about four to five ken up. Many people at the shrine, including lower shrine attendants, were injured, and three died instantly.
Then, from around 4 o'clock on the night of the following 24th, earthquakes began, gradually intensifying as if turning heaven and earth upside down. The sound of large trees and great houses collapsing everywhere was beyond comparison. The castle was completely shaken to ruins, and all forty-eight storehouses within the castle grounds collapsed. Zenko-ji Temple suffered similarly, with all the town districts completely destroyed. In the post town, fires broke out from collapsed houses, burning down over a thousand houses extending to nearby villages. It happened to be during a special temple exhibition, and the number of monks and laypeople, both men and women, who died instantly or were injured among the pilgrims was countless as far as the eye could see - truly what the world calls "hell on earth."
