現代語訳
東伊は京扇のところへ来て「奈良茂が勝山を身請けしようと言っている。そうなれば貴文に頼まれた面目が立たない。また貴文に身請けさせては奈良茂も面目が立たない。これは両人の面目が立たないことだ。なんとよい案はあるまいか」
京扇「先生どうでしょうか」
そのころ東伊が家の居候を東伊が手下というので、東伊の者々と言っていたが、今は盗人と言う。この時から始まったのである。

すぐに京扇は遊郭へ行き、勝山を呼び出して何気ない顔で騙して裏へ連れて行く。悲しいことに勝山はこの世の名残りである。
【勝山の台詞】
「恨まないでおくべきか。京扇さん、なぜ私を殺すのですか」

英語訳
Tōi came to Kyōōu and said, "Naramo says he wants to buy out Katsuyama. If that happens, I won't be able to fulfill my obligation to Kifumi. And if I let Kifumi buy her out instead, then Naramo will lose face. This is a matter where both men's honor is at stake. Isn't there some good plan?"
Kyōōu: "Master, what do you think?"
At that time, the hangers-on at Tōi's house were called "Tōi's men" because they were Tōi's followers, but now they are called thieves. It was from this time that this began.
