I went to Lord Inoue Kawachi-no-kami's residence, and when the formal reception began, I appeared at the seating area together with Lord Naito Noto-no-kami and offered my respects. Then I went to Lord Matsudaira Ukyo-no-taifu's residence, but since there was no formal reception, I conveyed my respects verbally to his retainer and returned.
Returned home past 6:30 (rokuhan-ji)
1. At 5:30 (gohan-ji), I assembled my retinue, dressed in formal silk half-court dress (fukusa hankami-shimo), left the residence and went to the castle. Before the castle, I went to Lord Akimoto Tajima-no-kami, met with him and offered my respects. I went to Lord Sakai Saemon-no-jo and Lord Matsudaira Ukon-shogen, but could not meet them due to construction work, so I left word verbally with their retainers. After completing other duties, I returned home at 9:30 (kyuhan-ji).
Before the courtesy visit to the castle, I did not visit Senior Councilor Sado-no-kami, the Junior Councilors, or the Personal Attendants.
April 9th
1. From Lord Naito Noto-no-kami came word that tomorrow, the 10th, permission to depart for Nikko had been granted, and that I should go to the castle at 5:30, according to an official letter signed by the Senior Councilors that had arrived. I understood this and sent a reply.
Same day, the 10th
1. A messenger came from Lord Naito Noto-no-kami saying that today permission to depart for Edo had been granted, that he had received the lord's intention and been given gifts, for which he was grateful, and he came to inform me of this.
