一、御用召しにつき出仕する旨を坊主を通じて御目付に申し遣わしたところ、筧助兵衛が承知した旨を申してきた。今日御用召しで出仕する人々は、松平紀伊守殿、永井信濃守殿（病気のため名代として本庄近江守殿）、丹羽式部少輔、米倉丹後守殿が一同に仰せ渡されることになっている。席次等について話し合っておいた。紀伊守殿には別途仰せ渡しがあるため、一般的な事項について、出方並びに御礼申し上げ方等について申し合わせておいた。高家衆では戸田備後守、中條河内守にも召されることになっているため、今日の出方等について話し合った。年寄衆が揃った後、詰日の衆である酒井修理殿、土井能登殿も一同の席に出席した。
一、揃った後、御目付山木若狭守が雁之間に参り、寄せ書きの書付を見せられたので一覧したところ、高家衆両人の次に自分と紀伊守殿の名前があったので、承知した旨を挨拶した。程なく年寄衆が御座敷回りをするため、芙蓉之間の御縁側、雁之間の御障子の方の後に控え、高家衆両人の次に控えていた。松平紀伊守殿は帝鑑之間のため菊之間の縁側に控えていた。年寄衆の御座敷回り、詰日の衆の機嫌伺いが済んでから、御目付衆の指図により、高家衆両人が出席し、日光十七日の御名代を仰せ渡される件が済んだ。自分と松平紀伊守殿両人は一同に芙蓉之間の中の柱から出席し、年寄衆列座の中で御用番松平伊豆守殿が仰せ渡しされた。「来る二十日、日光御名代として書面の通り仰せ付けられる」旨を仰せ聞かされ、御書付一通を渡されたので、自分が受け取った。すなわち御書付は

Those summoned for official duties today were Lord Matsudaira Kii-no-kami, Lord Nagai Shinano-no-kami (with Lord Honjō Ōmi-no-kami serving as his proxy due to illness), Niwa Shikibu-shōyū, and Lord Yonekura Tango-no-kami, all receiving orders together. We discussed seating arrangements and other matters. Since Lord Kii-no-kami was to receive separate orders regarding various matters, we coordinated on protocols for appearing and expressing gratitude. Among the kōke (high-ranking families), Toda Bingo-no-kami and Nakajō Kawachi-no-kami were also summoned, so we discussed today's protocols. After the rōjū (senior councilors) assembled, the tsumeshu (duty officers) Lord Sakai Shuri and Lord Doi Noto also joined the gathering.

The names of myself and Lord Kii-no-kami appeared after the two kōke members, so I acknowledged understanding. Soon the rōjū made their rounds of the chambers, and I waited behind the veranda of Fuyō-no-ma and near the shoji screens of Gan-no-ma, positioned after the two kōke members. Lord Matsudaira Kii-no-kami waited on the veranda of Kiku-no-ma as he was assigned to Teikan-no-ma. After the rōjū completed their chamber rounds and the tsumeshu paid their respects, following instructions from the metsuke, the two kōke members took their positions. The matter of appointing Nikkō representatives for the 17th was completed. Both Lord Matsudaira Kii-no-kami and I appeared together from the central pillar of Fuyō-no-ma, and with the rōjū seated in formation, goyōban (duty councilor) Lord Matsudaira Izu-no-kami made the announcement: "You are appointed as Nikkō representatives as written in the document for the coming 20th."
