現代語訳
その処、暫くあって備中守殿が退出し、公用人が出てきて表に参るよう申し付けた。言上伺書を持参して参り控えていると間もなく、備中守殿が対客の間にお出になり、公用人が杉戸を明けると、入口で扇子を取り、姓名を名乗って参った。
公方様、右大将様はますます御機嫌よくお過ごしでございますかの旨を申し述べると、守殿から御機嫌よくお過ごしでございますとの答えがあり、恐悦に存じ奉る旨を申し上げた。そして去る二十日、日光において御霊屋の御名代の拝礼を首尾よく相勤め、御山内が御安全でございました。日光奉行への御奉書をお渡しし、御伝言の趣を申し達しました。
執当への御伝言を申し達した処、御門主にお目にかかった節、右の御挨拶がございました。
右を申し述べ終わって、備中守殿から左の通りの書付をお渡しいただいた。

明二十四日日光帰りの
御目見に仰せ付けられ候間、五時半に
登城あるべく候。以上

右を拝見し畏まり候段を申し、書付を畳の側に置いた。
御目見の言上は前々の通り申し上げるべきか伺書を差し上げる段を申し、左の通り書付を差し出した。
去る二十日日光において御霊屋の
御名代の拝礼を首尾よく相勤め、天気までも
よろしく万端残る所なく相済み申し候。
右の通り言上仕るべきか奉伺い候。以上
四月二十三日 内藤大和守
右をお受け取りになり、先々の通り心得るべき由をおっしゃったので、承知の旨を申し述べ、書付は留め置き申した。そして心持ちを下げ、いよいよ御勇健と申し上げれば、向こうからも安否を問われ、相済んで、この度日光御霊屋の御名代を滞りなく相勤め、御宮・御霊屋の自分拝礼も仕り、有難い仕合いと存じ奉る段を申し述べて退座し、直ちに退去した。それから両丸年寄衆に相回り、何も申し置いた。
右が相済んで屋敷に着いたのは九時半過ぎであった。
一、用を頼んでいた大目付・御目付に案内の手紙を出した。
一、隠岐守へは着いた案内の使者を差し出した。
一、着後、代隠岐守付の使者並びに近親付の使者にも直接答えを致した。
一、当勤の同席衆にだけ帰府を知らせるため、且つ明日御目見の御達しがあった旨を留守居から奉札を以て差し出した。
一、両丸若年衆・御側衆に案内の使者を差し出した。

After a while, Lord Bitchū-no-kami finished his duties, the public affairs official came out and instructed me to proceed to the front. I brought my written report and waited in attendance, and before long Lord Bitchū-no-kami appeared in the guest reception room. When the public affairs official opened the sliding doors, I took my fan at the entrance, announced my name and appeared.
I stated whether His Lordship the Shogun and the Right General were increasingly in good health, and the Lord replied that they were in good health, to which I expressed that this was most gratifying. Then, on the past 20th day, at Nikkō I successfully performed the proxy worship at the Sacred Mausoleum, and the sacred mountain grounds were in perfect safety. I delivered the official letter to the Nikkō magistrate and conveyed the message.
When I conveyed the message to the temple administrator and had audience with the temple head, the aforementioned greetings took place.
After stating the above, Lord Bitchū-no-kami handed me the following written order:

Tomorrow the 24th, regarding your return from Nikkō,
you are ordered to have audience, so at half past five
you shall attend the castle. That is all.
April 23rd
I viewed this and stated that I humbly accepted it, placing the document beside the tatami.
Regarding the formal address for the audience, I stated that I would submit an inquiry as to whether I should speak as before, and submitted the following document:
On the past 20th day at Nikkō, regarding the Sacred Mausoleum
proxy worship, I successfully performed my duties, even the weather was
favorable and everything was completed without any shortcomings.
I humbly inquire whether I should make the above formal address.
April 23rd Naitō Yamato-no-kami
He received this and said I should understand as before, so I stated that I acknowledged this, and the document was retained. Then I lowered my demeanor, and when I said he seemed increasingly vigorous, he also inquired about my well-being. After this was completed, I stated that this time I had served without delay as proxy at the Nikkō Sacred Mausoleum, and that I had also performed my own worship at the Sacred Shrine and Sacred Mausoleum, which I considered a most fortunate circumstance. I then withdrew from my seat and immediately departed. From there I made rounds to the senior councillors of both citadels and conveyed everything to them.
After completing this, I arrived at the residence after half past nine.
1. I sent notification letters to the senior inspector and inspectors whom I had asked for assistance.
1. To Oki-no-kami, I sent a messenger to announce my arrival.
1. After arriving, I also gave direct replies to the messenger from Deputy Oki-no-kami and the messenger from close relatives.
1. Only to my colleagues of the same rank, I had the caretaker send notification of my return to the capital and that there had been an order for tomorrow's audience, using an official notice.
1. I sent notification messengers to the junior councillors and chamberlains of both citadels.
