一、宿坊照尊院が来訪し、会って段々世話になったことについて挨拶した。
一、九時半に発足した後、日光奉行に使者を以て出立の件を案内申し遣わした。
人数を引き払った件を届けるため、使者を以て申し達した。
一、今日から各駅の馳走人や出役の者に時宜を受けることとした。
一、鉄次郎泊に七時半過ぎに着いた。
同二十一日
一、八時半過ぎに鉄次郎駅を出立した。
一、小金井昼休に九時過ぎに着いた。
一、夕方六時過ぎに野木泊に着いた。
一、昨日上野に御成が相済んだ段を江戸表から申し越してきたので、同駅から口上書を差し出した。
一、各所の馳走人等は登山掛通のため略した。
同二十二日
一、八時半過ぎに野木駅を出立した。
一、杉戸昼休に四時半に着いた。
一、草加駅に六時に着いた。
同二十三日
一、草加駅を七時過ぎに出立した。
一、千住駅に五時に着き、髪や月代などを整し、熨斗目半袴を着用し、五時半過ぎに出立した。
一、阿部備中守殿に、今朝千住を出立し、後刻伺候すべき旨を留守居を使者として差し出した。
一、上野下五条天神社内小休に四時半前に参り、目前で備中守殿の登城後を待合していた処、その内に登城が済んだ段を屋敷から申し来た。
供回りを江戸表の通りに直し、同所を立って御用番備中守殿の所に参り、
取次の案内で大勝手を通り、公用人を呼び出して、只今日光から帰府したので参った旨を申し述べた。直ちにその人に退出の有無を承った処、
未だ無い旨を申し聞かされたので、御退出をお待ちするので宜しく申し上げてくれるよう申し、控えていた。また公用人が参り、時分にも至ったので簡末の料理を差し出すべき
かの旨を申したので、時分は宜しいが料理の件はお断りする旨を申し述べた
処、暫くして備中守殿が退出し、公用人が出て表に参るよう申し
付けた。言上伺書を持参して参り控えていると間もなく、備中守殿が対客の
間にお出になり、公用人が杉戸を明けて入口で扇子を取り、姓名を名乗って参った。
公方様、右大将様はますます御機嫌よくていらっしゃるかの旨を申し述べ、備中守殿から
御機嫌よくていらっしゃる旨の答えがあり、恐悦に存じ奉る旨を申した後、去る二十日
日光において御霊屋の御名代の拝礼を首尾よく相勤め、御山内が
御安全でございました。日光奉行への御奉書をお渡しし、御伝言の趣を申し達し、
執当への御申達の処、御門主にお目にかかった節、右の御挨拶を

1. I arrived at Senju station at five o'clock, arranged my hair and monthly shaving, put on noshime half-hakama, and departed after half past five.
1. To Lord Abe Bitchū-no-kami, I sent word through the caretaker as messenger that I had departed Senju this morning and would pay my respects later.
1. I arrived at the small rest area within Ueno Shimogojō Tenjin Shrine before half past four, and while waiting after Lord Bitchū-no-kami's attendance at the castle right before me, word came from the residence that his castle attendance had been completed.
I adjusted my attendants according to Edo protocol, left that place and went to Lord Bitchū-no-kami who was on duty,
guided by an attendant through the main service area, called for the public affairs official, and stated that I had just returned from Nikkō and had come to report. I immediately inquired of that person whether there had been any departure from service,
and was told there had not yet been any, so I said I would wait for the departure from service and asked him to convey this properly, and waited in attendance. When the public affairs official came again and the time had arrived, he asked whether simple
refreshments should be served, so I stated that while the timing was appropriate, I would decline the refreshments.
After a while, Lord Bitchū-no-kami finished his duties, the public affairs official came out and instructed me to proceed to the front.
I brought my written report and waited in attendance, and before long Lord Bitchū-no-kami appeared in the guest reception room, the public affairs official opened the sliding doors, and at the entrance I took my fan, announced my name and appeared.
I stated whether His Lordship the Shogun and the Right General were increasingly in good health, and Lord Bitchū-no-kami replied that they were in good health, and I expressed that this was most gratifying. Then, on the past 20th day
at Nikkō, I successfully performed the proxy worship at the Sacred Mausoleum, and the sacred mountain grounds were
in perfect safety. I delivered the official letter to the Nikkō magistrate, conveyed the message,
and regarding the communication to the temple administrator, when I had audience with the temple head, the aforementioned greetings were
