向合横畳二畳明着座候と備前守殿左之通

御名代幷代り被 仰付
右之通り被仰渡相済御書付御渡ニ付自分罷立御同人之
前へ罷出候と御書付御渡有之直元席へ復座右御書付

芙蓉の間の御縁の角の御柱際に着座し、老中様方は御杉戸際に
御列座された。大目付の堀豆州が会釈により、自分(隠岐)は例の通り
二本目三本目の御柱の間から出て、二人目の老中と
向かい合って横畳二畳分空けて着座した。すると備前守殿が左の通り申し渡された。

右の通り仰せ渡しが済み、御書付をお渡しいただくため、自分が立ち上がってその方の

September 14th
One: Shortly after the rotating duty officers (mawari-tsume-shū) completed their courtesy calls to inquire about his lordship's well-being, the assistant guard (sukebان) took his customary seat by the pillar at the corner of the veranda in the Fuyō-no-ma (Lotus Room). The senior councilors (rōjū) were seated in a row near the cedar sliding doors. At the gesture of the chief inspector (ōmetsuke) Hori Tōshū, I (Oki) came forward as usual from between the second and third pillars and sat facing the second senior councilor, leaving a space of two tatami mats between us. Then Lord Bizen-no-kami announced as follows:
Regarding the succession of the shogun, [you are]
appointed as representative (myōdai) and deputy
for the Nikkō
