出火有之節鉦打候事で火事見付次第鉦打候様ニ可被致候只今迄も右之通ニ可有之候得共向後仲間被申談少も早く
打候様可被致候左候へハ諸方へ早速相知可然事ニ候 出馬之儀右之節成兼可申間支度出来次第早速可被罷出候
尤支度出来候面々月番ゟ先達而罷出候儀も可有之事 ケ様之儀ハ苦かる間敷儀ニ候何レニも諸方へ早速相知候

辺火事を見違或ハ御城下ニ而も少々煙立候を見付鉦打候節早速湿り候例有之候最初鉦打候へハ早
速之湿り或ハ見違ニ而も其様子不相知故御城下騒ニ相成候間左様之節火之見ニ而板為打申度旨申

現代語訳
一、文化元年子年三月二十九日、去る十六日の毛屋二十三軒町火事の節に出精した面々について、高知中をはじめ褒詞があった
一、安永五年午年八月朔日、去年秋の亀屋町火事で御城が危険な状況になったが、御家中の面々が働いたため、御無事に御着城され、御満足の旨を仰せ渡されたこと
【朱書】元禄五年申年三月二十三日、火消役の面々である芦田右衛門、本多勘ケ由、松平主馬、杉田弾正、笹治大学、稲葉采女、斎藤右近の右七人を御座所へ招き、各々出火の際には取り急ぎ出向く役であるので、そのようにあるべきことである。ただし大体火元も承知して出向くのが当然である。また右の内から残り番を二人ずつ定め、もし他での出火もあるかもしれないので守るべきである。松平主馬は年寄を申すことであるので、右の残り番の内で定番に決め、外の一人は順番とすべき旨、右の通り仰せ出されたので、今日狛杢允、本多左兵衛、狛帯刀が列座して、右の面々へ御意の趣を杢允が申し渡した 御用部屋留
一、寛延元年辰年の火事について御屋形へ出向く件が仰せ出され、雷・地震の条に記載されている
一、同年十月二十四日 狛杢、酒井内膳、稲葉多宮、岡部右京、大谷助六
出火の際に鐘を打つことについて、火事を見つけ次第鐘を打つようにすべきである。今まででも右の通りであったはずだが、今後は仲間で申し合わせて少しでも早く打つようにすべきである。そうすれば諸方へ早速知らせることができて良いことである。出馬については右の節は叶わない場合があるので、支度ができ次第早速出向くべきである。もっとも支度ができた面々は月番より先に出向くこともあるだろう。このようなことは苦しからぬことである。いずれにしても諸方へ早速知らせることが第一である。この段を右のように申し合わせるよう相達すべき旨が仰せ出された
【赤字】一、元禄十一年寅年三月二十五日、高知の面々が火消月番の火の見櫓に銅鑼を吊り置き、もし出火の節には打つために良いとの旨を御立前で仰せ出され、今日酒井典膳宅において本多図書、芦田右衛門へ申し渡した。もっとも仲間中へ申し伝えるように申し聞かせた。ただし銅鑼を面々が所持していなければ御貸しになる旨か、その段も申し聞かせたところ借用したいとのことなので、御武具方へ申し達して相渡すように御目付雪吹喜左衛門へこれまた典膳が申し渡した 御用部屋留
一、享保十七年子年五月二日、去る三月二十七日類焼した面々について以下の通り拝借銀が仰せ付けられ、采女方の宅番頭或いはその仲間へ申し聞かせた

一、同十九年寅年十一月十七日、御座所で御家老中が部屋で酒井玄蕃方の御目付共へ申し聞かせたのは、火事場において［虫損］火消面々の火の消し方、人数等について［虫損］指図がましいことを［虫損］するのは無用である。高知火消は近年中絶しているが［虫損］御目付共は右火消に指図がましいことは無用である由であるので、そのように心得るべきである。この段を申し聞かせる訳は、格別火事消しで指図がましく申す節に、火消方からの返答の品が悪しき事もあればいかがであるので、心得のため申し聞かせる由で、何も申し達すのは御指図であるので得心している。我ら共が火事場へ早速駆け付けるのは第一火の防ぎのためと思い出向き、随分駆け回ってそれぞれ申し合わせ大火に及ばないようにするのを側御奉公と思っている。右を仰せ聞かせる所であるので、出向いて存じ寄りのことがあってもその通りにしておくと申すものである由申し達したところ、玄蕃方が申し聞かせたのは、そのように心得てもならない。その場で存じ寄ることもあれば、あなたの人数を回すのも良いかなどと、指図がましくないように申し合わせるのが良いと思う由を申し聞かせたので、また申し達したのは、火事場のことであるので事静かな席とは違い、混雑している中であるので高声になることもあり、聞こえかねる時節であるので、思し召し通りではない場所のことなので、その程度はいかがであろうかと申し達したところ、玄蕃方が申し聞かせたのは、もっともであるが、まず右の通りに心得、その程度の了簡をするが良い旨を申し聞かせたので承知し、即刻同役が揃って御前へ出向き、右の品を委細申し上げたところ、翌十八日月番栃屋半右衛門が召され、昨日申し上げた火事場でのことについて思し召しの程を御用人共を以て仰せ聞かせるので畏るべき旨が仰せ出されたので、その旨を同役へ申し達し置いたところ、同十九日笹治権右衛門が同役共へ申し聞かせたのは、火事場でのことについて各々申す所もあるが、玄蕃方が申し聞かせた通りに心得、指図がましくせず大火に及ばないようにその程度の料簡をすべき旨申し聞かせたので畏った
一、同月二十八日、松平庄兵衛、狛杢が月番半右衛門へ申し聞かせたのは、今まで御城下出火の節に鐘を打つまでで、湿りの鳴り物が無い。在辺の火事を見間違えたり、或いは御城下でも少々煙が立つのを見付けて鐘を打つ節に早速湿る例がある。最初に鐘を打てば早速の湿りや見間違いでもその様子が分からないため御城下騒ぎになるので、そのような節には火の見で板を打ちたい旨申し聞かせたので、右の板を打つことを御断りするか、また御家老中へ申し達して相伺い御挨拶すべきことかと相尋ねたところ、一応御家老中へ申し達して挨拶を承りたい旨なので、則ち相伺ったところ、先年御国目付中が御越しの節には火の見でそのようなことを仰せ付けられたが、常々湿りの板を打つことは前々より無いので御聴に達すべき旨を申し聞かせ、十二月朔日玄蕃方が半右衛門に申し聞かせたのは、右の板を様子次第で打つように庄兵衛・杢へ申し達すべき旨なので、その段申し達した。就いて御家老中未だまで右の通り湿り板を打つことを申し送るのが良い旨、これも後に玄蕃方が申し聞かせたので、その段を寄々申し伝えた
一、元文二年巳年三月二十九日、御奉行土屋十郎右衛門へ、御城下火事の節に町鳶の者共の家数も類焼し、働いた節には前々［虫損］手当てを下されている。今度誓願寺村で家数多く類焼し働いたので、文金一両を惣鳶の者へ下し置くべき旨を御家老中が申し渡された
一、延享二年丑年六月十五日、津田源之丞が矢場で麻木灰を焼くため、則ち煙が立つはずの例で火消月番へも源之丞より達し置いた由であったが、少々間違いがあり鐘が打たれ《割書：騒ぎになったことが｜留められている》

Regarding ringing bells when fires occur, bells should be rung as soon as fires are discovered.
