一延宝七未四月廿九日御城惣曲輪堀埋り候ニ付御願被仰達
一貞享四卯年御堀浚残并石垣両所三之丸神明裏破損繕之儀相伺四月十七日被
仰出御奉書来ル
一享保十五戌年下町御堀堰石御普請ニ付水落候様断御家老中へ相達候留有之
但寛政二戌年御堀水落シ之例有之 石垣之部ニ出之
一元文五申年之と留ニ江戸町裏御堀浚ニ付秋田三五左衛門裏ゟ永田四郎兵衛屋敷脇迄縄張申
付候間組之者指出候様御普請奉行申聞組之者弐人差出之
但往来二ノ丸道々ニ至候而致縄張往来為留度旨申聞候節御家老中へ相伺申達候事留有之
一寛延三午五月外御曲輪北之方御堀同竹ケ鼻御門外ゟ地蔵脇御門迄御堀同所御門
ゟ小馬出シ御門北之方御堀埋り候付浚候儀御伺被仰達候事留有之
一宝暦七丑年三月御堀浚之儀是迄は御願と申ニ而有之候処以後御伺と申ニ相成委細御普
請御伺御用留ニ有之外側御堀浚御伺画図出来候事

御堀
一、延宝七年未年四月二十九日 御城総曲輪の堀が埋まったため、御願いを申し上げた。
一、貞享四年卯年 御堀浚い残りと石垣両所、三の丸神明裏破損繕いの件について相伺いし、四月十七日に仰せ出され御奉書が来た。
一、享保十五年戌年 下町御堀の堰石御普請のため水を落とすよう断りを御家老中へ相達した記録がある。
但し寛政二年戌年に御堀水落としの例がある。石垣の部に出ている。
一、元文五年申年の記録に、江戸町裏御堀浚いのため秋田三五左衛門裏から永田四郎兵衛屋敷脇まで縄張りを申し付けたので、組の者を指し出すよう御普請奉行が申し聞き、組の者二人を差し出した。
但し往来二の丸道々に至って縄張りをし、往来を留めたい旨を申し聞いた節は、御家老中へ相伺い申し達したことの記録がある。
一、寛延三年午年五月 外御曲輪北の方御堀、同竹ヶ鼻御門外から地蔵脇御門まで御堀、同所御門から小馬出し御門北の方御堀が埋まったため浚うことを御伺い申し上げたことの記録がある。
一、宝暦七年丑年三月 御堀浚いの件は、これまでは御願いと申していたが、以後は御伺いと申すことになった。委細は御普請御伺い御用留めにある。外側御堀浚い御伺い画図ができたこと。
文化年間 御座所御裏御堀水控え石垣孕み出し見分のこと。石垣の部に出ている。

Moats
1. Enpō 7, Year of the Sheep, 4th month, 29th day: A petition was submitted because the moat around the entire castle compound had become filled with sediment.
1. Jōkyō 4, Year of the Rabbit: Regarding the remaining moat dredging work and repairs to damaged stone walls in two locations and behind Sannomaru Shinmei shrine, an inquiry was made and on April 17th orders were issued and an official document arrived.
1. Kyōhō 15, Year of the Dog: Due to construction work on the weir stones of the Shimomachi moat, notification was given to the senior councilors requesting permission to drain the water. Records exist.
Note: There is a precedent for draining the moat water in Kansei 2, Year of the Dog. This appears in the stone wall section.
1. From the records of Genbun 5, Year of the Monkey: For dredging the moat behind Edo-machi, rope marking was ordered from behind Akita Sangozaemon's residence to beside Nagata Shirōbei's residence, so the construction magistrate requested that group members be assigned. Two group members were dispatched.
Note: When notification was given requesting to set up rope barriers along the roads to Ninomaru and block traffic, this matter was reported and consulted with the senior councilors. Records exist.
1. Kan'en 3, Year of the Horse, 5th month: The moats on the northern side of the outer compound, from outside Takegahana Gate to beside Jizō Gate, and from that gate to the northern moat of Koumadashi Gate had become filled with sediment, so a petition was submitted for dredging work. Records exist.
1. Hōreki 7, Year of the Ox, 3rd month: Regarding moat dredging work, whereas previously it was called "petition" (onegai), hereafter it became called "inquiry" (ukagai). Details are in the construction inquiry records. Drawings for the outer moat dredging inquiry were completed.
Bunka era: Regarding the inspection of bulging water retention stone walls behind the lord's quarters. This appears in the stone wall section.
