山川爰之助儀若年之故家内〆り等実父磯野多宮方ゟ心附候処当年江戸留守
ニ付右留守中多宮方へ同居致度旨願之通被仰付其段爰之助へ可被申聞候
右之趣磯野多宮も同様被仰付候事
一天明三卯三月御書院番武部作太夫江戸留守中家内丸岡家中村岡庄太夫と申者里ニ付
留守中預置候旨申聞候依之他所之事故御家老中へ致御物語候処拙者共承置勝手
次第里之儀ニ候へハ指越候様可申聞旨被申聞候
一宝暦三酉年御留守番組和田岩之助幼少ニ付叔父笹倉郡左衛門方ニ同居右屋敷差上候留
有之猶揚屋敷之部ニ出之

一博奕之儀兼而御禁制候処今度博奕仕候者数多有之ニ付御仕置被仰付候侍屋敷長屋ニ於而博
奕仕候由ニ而自今以後面々支配之者并召仕候下々ニ至迄堅相守様可申付候
一親類縁者たりといふ共一年之行跡難見届者ハ屋敷之内ニ差指置申間敷候
一小身之輩宿借等猥ニ指置申間敷候若指置不申候而不叶儀ニ候ハヽ吟味之上慥成者候ハヽ請人を
相立指置可申事候尤宿借候様子をも無油断自分見廻り可申候江戸留守之節ハ猶以一類共念

へ可申聞旨高田小左衛門酒井刑部方大谷儀左衛門を以評定所ニ而被申聞候
一御番組之面々江戸詰罷越候節妻子等一類共へ留守中預置家屋敷ハ餘人へ貸置申度旨相達候

但御目付へ右之段切紙ニ而申遣筈且又預り候方ハ其頭ゟ申遣ニ不及其者ゟ申達迄ニ而相済候又

現代語訳
一、明和九年辰年（安永元年）五月十六日、水戸但馬へ
山川爰之助の件について、若年のため家内の締まり等を実父磯野多宮方から心配されているところ、当年江戸留守につき、右留守中に多宮方へ同居したい旨の願いの通り仰せ付けられ、その段を爰之助へ申し聞かせるべきである。
右の趣は磯野多宮も同様に仰せ付けられた。
一、天明三年卯年三月、御書院番武部作太夫の江戸留守中、家内を丸岡家中村岡庄太夫という者の里につき留守中預け置いた旨申し聞かせた。これにより他所のことなので御家老中へ御話しをしたところ、拙者共が承り置き勝手次第、里の儀なので差し越すよう申し聞かせるべき旨を申し聞かされた。
一、宝暦三年酉年、御留守番組和田岩之助が幼少につき叔父笹倉郡左衛門方に同居、右屋敷を差し上げた記録がある。なお揚屋敷の部に出ている。
一、左の通り仰せ出された
一、博打の儀は兼ねてより御禁制であるところ、今度博打をする者が数多くあったので御仕置きを仰せ付けられた。侍屋敷長屋において博打をした由で、自今以後面々支配の者並びに召し仕える下々に至るまで堅く相守るよう申し付けるべきである。
一、親類縁者たりといえども一年の行跡を見届け難い者は屋敷の内に差し置いてはならない。
一、小身の輩の宿借等みだりに差し置いてはならない。もし差し置かなければ叶わない儀であるならば吟味の上確かな者であるなら請人を立てて差し置くべきことである。もっとも宿借の様子も油断なく自分で見回りをすべきである。江戸留守の節は猶以て一類共が念を入れて吟味を遂げ差し置くべきである。
右の趣今度仰せ出された条、急度相守り、相背く輩があれば主人が越度となるべきである。以上
一、町屋に居住する節は町奉行所にて判形をする筈である。
一、寛保元年酉年十月二十八日、大町間作が去八月屋敷で失火をし、未だ家作が出来上がらないので当冬中兄斎藤喜作方に同居する願いが済んだ。
一、享保十一年午年八月二十五日
侍中の江戸留守中居屋敷を借りる儀について、向後口上書を以て相願うに及ばず、目付中が借宅主から相談されるよう仲間へ申し聞かせるべき旨を、高田小左衛門、酒井刑部方大谷儀左衛門を以て評定所にて申し聞かされた。
一、御番組の面々が江戸詰めに罷り越す節、妻子等一類共へ留守中預け置き、家屋敷は余人へ貸し置きたい旨相談すれば、勝手次第にするよう申し聞かせるべきことである。
但し御目付へ右の段を切紙にて申し遣わす筈、かつまた預かる方はその頭から申し遣わすに及ばずその者から申し達するまでで済む。また両様共にその頭から申し達さずその者から達して済む儀もある。
一、文化三年辰年四月八日、波々伯部十郎三郎が江戸詰めにつき留守家の儀を矢嶋七郎右衛門へ貸し置くと約束を置いたところ、十郎三郎の出立がしばらく御差し留めになったので、七郎右衛門はこれまでの借居家を先方へ明け渡さなければならなくなった。何とか十郎三郎の家は七郎右衛門へ貸し渡し、十郎三郎の儀は出立まで暫くの間実兄井原丞助方へ同居したい旨口上書を差し出したので、勝手次第にするよう申し達した。
一、享和三年亥年十一月晦日、左の通り申し達した。

1. Meiwa 9, year of the dragon (An'ei 1, 1772), 5th month, 16th day, to Mito Tajima:
Regarding Yamakawa Korenosuke's matter: due to his young age, his father Isono Tamiya has been concerned about household management and other matters. This year, during his Edo residence duty absence, his petition to live with Tamiya during said absence has been approved as requested, and this matter should be communicated to Korenosuke.
Isono Tamiya has been similarly instructed in this matter.
1. Tenmei 3, year of the rabbit (1783), 3rd month: During御書院番 Takebe Sakutayū's absence for Edo duty, he reported that he had left his household in the care of one Muraoka Shōtayū of the Maruoka retainer group during his absence. Since this concerned another domain, the matter was discussed with the senior retainers, who stated that since this was a personal matter regarding his home village that we had acknowledged, he should be told to proceed as he saw fit.
1. Hōreki 3, year of the rooster (1753): Due to Wada Iwanosuke of the residence duty group being a minor, he lived with his uncle Sasakura Gunzaemon and surrendered his residence. There is a record of this, which also appears in the section on surrendered residences.
1. The following was proclaimed:
1. Gambling has long been prohibited, but since many have recently been gambling, punishments have been ordered. Since gambling occurred in samurai residences and long-houses, from now on all those under command and even the lowest servants should be strictly ordered to observe this prohibition.
1. Even if they are relatives, those whose conduct over a year cannot be verified should not be allowed to stay within the residence.
1. Lodgers of lower-ranking people should not be carelessly accommodated. If accommodation cannot be avoided, after investigation, if they are reliable persons, guarantors should be established before accommodating them. Of course, the situation of lodgers should be monitored without negligence through personal inspections. During Edo residence duty absence, relatives should be even more careful in conducting investigations before accommodating anyone.

1. Kanpō 1, year of the rooster (1741), 10th month, 28th day: Ōmachi Masaku had a fire at his residence last 8th month, and since reconstruction was not yet complete, his petition to live with his elder brother Saitō Kisaku during the winter was approved.
1. Kyōhō 11, year of the horse (1726), 8th month, 25th day:
Regarding samurai borrowing residences during their absence for Edo duty, henceforth there is no need to petition with written requests; the inspectors should be notified by the landlords, and this should be communicated to colleagues. This was communicated at the council through Takada Kozaemon and Ōtani Gizaemon from Sakai Gyōbu's office.
1. When members of the guard units depart for Edo duty and wish to leave their wives, children, and relatives in others' care during their absence and lend their house and residence to others, they should be told they may do so as they see fit.
However, this matter should be reported to the inspectors on a slip of paper. Also, those receiving care need not have their unit commanders report this - it suffices for the individuals themselves to report. Sometimes both parties may complete the process by having the individuals report rather than their unit commanders.
1. Bunka 3, year of the dragon (1806), 4th month, 8th day: Hababe Jūrōsaburō made arrangements to lend his house during his absence to Yajima Shichiuemon for his Edo duty. However, Jūrōsaburō's departure was temporarily postponed, and Shichiuemon needed to vacate his previous rental to the landlord. Therefore, a petition was submitted requesting that Jūrōsaburō's house be lent to Shichiuemon, and that Jūrōsaburō temporarily live with his elder brother Ihara Jōsuke until his departure. This was approved as requested.
