田畝（てんほう）の路傍（みちはた）溝瀆（みその）中にあり春
月 子（み）より生（せう）す高（たか）さ一二尺 茎（くき）弱（よは）くして
地（ち）に垂（た）る葉（は）は蕎麦（きやうはく）《割書：そ｜は》に似て長（なか）く
互生（こせい）す夏秋（なつあき）の間（あいた）枝（ゑた）を分（わか）ち花（はな）あり

【左丁】
田畑の道端や溝の中にある。春
に種から生える。高さは1～2尺。茎は弱くて
地面に垂れる。葉は蕎麦に似て長く、
互生する。夏秋の間に枝を分かち花がある。
コウハンキ（イシミカワ）のように、最初まだ開かない時
は紅色で、満開するにしたがって白
色となる。実は三稜で小さい。霜の
後、葉と根ともに枯れる。また茎葉および花
も苦蕎麦（ミゾソバ）と同じで、茎に小さく
丸い葉があるものは刺がある。
コウハンキ（イシミカワ）、シャクキョウ（ウナギツカミ）の類
で、前条とは別である。一種、葉
に黒く八の字の形があって、
黒記草（ハチマンタテ）のようなものがある。

Found beside the paths of fields and paddies and in ditches. In spring
it grows from seeds. Height is 1-2 shaku. The stems are weak and
droop to the ground. The leaves resemble buckwheat but are longer and
alternately arranged. Between summer and autumn it branches and has flowers.
Like kōhanki (ishimikawa), when first unopened
they are red in color, and as they reach full bloom they turn white
in color. The seeds are three-ridged and small. After frost,
both leaves and roots wither. Also the stems, leaves, and flowers
are the same as bitter buckwheat (mizosoba), and those with small
round leaves on the stem have thorns.
They are of the same type as kōhanki (ishimikawa) and shakyō (unagitsukami)
and are different from the previous entry. One variety has
black markings in the shape of the character "eight" on the leaves,
resembling kokukisō (hachimandate).
