早生、中生、晩生の三種類がある。初夏に種を
蒔く。粒は細かく小さくて
毛がなく、濃い黄色
である。中でも白粟、
また御前粟とも呼ぶ
ものは粒が小さく色が白い。古い説では
粱（りょう）の集解の白粱（はくりょう）に
当てはまるとするが、もち性なので今は
ここに分類する。華夷考に
「瓊膏（けいこう）があって色が白いこと
銀のようである」と書かれている。

There are three varieties: early, medium, and late ripening.
Seeds are sown in early summer. The grains are fine and small,
without hairs, and of a deep yellow
color. Among these, white millet,
also called gozen-awa,
has small grains and white color. According to old theories,
it corresponds to hakuryō (white millet) in the
collected commentaries on ryō (millet), but since it is glutinous,
it is now classified here. The Kai-i-kō states:
"It has keikō (fine essence) and its white color
is like silver."
