『大和本草』
『本草綱目』紫蘇の集解に時珍が云うには、今
一種の花紫蘇というものがある。その葉は細かい歯が密に
並んで、まるで切り整えたような状態である。香気・色・茎・子は並びに
異なることがない。人は
回回蘇と称する。この紫蘇は山野にあり、形
状・気味は紫蘇と異ならない。ただ葉が細く、
茎・子も細い。香気は
普通の紫蘇に比べてなお
激しい。時珍の言う
花紫蘇は、これで
あろう。

寿考が曰く
『大和本草』
国俗で朝鮮紫蘇と称するものがある。茎・葉は
普通の紫蘇と異ならないが、ただ裏表とも
紫色で、香気が勝っている。朝鮮国
よりその実が来る。今日の縮緬紫蘇である。
縮緬紫蘇の葉で裏
表とも青色のものがある。
国俗では青紫蘇と云う。また葉の裏が青く、
表が紫のものがある。片面シソと云う。また早
紫蘇がある。三月の末に実を結ぶ。
これは別の種で、高さ一尺に満たない。
穂は長い。

In the collected explanations of shiso in "Honzō Kōmoku," Shizhen says that there is now
one variety called flower shiso. Its leaves have fine teeth densely
arranged, looking as if they were cut and shaped. The fragrance, color, stem, and seeds are all
no different. People
call it Kaikaiso. This shiso exists in mountains and fields, and its form,
nature, and taste do not differ from shiso. Only the leaves are fine, and
the stem and seeds are also fine. The fragrance
is even more
intense compared to ordinary shiso. What Shizhen calls
flower shiso is probably
this.

Jukō says
"Yamato Honzō"
There is what people commonly call Korean shiso. The stem and leaves
do not differ from ordinary shiso, but both front and back are
purple in color, and the fragrance is superior. The seeds come
from Korea. This is today's crepe shiso.
Among crepe shiso leaves, there are those where both front
and back are blue in color.
People commonly call this blue shiso. There are also those where the back of the leaf is blue and
the front is purple. This is called one-sided shiso. There is also early
shiso. It bears fruit at the end of March.
This is a different variety, not reaching one shaku in height.
The spikes are long.
