琉球入貢紀略序【角印一つ】
海の向こうから、風と潮に乗って我が国に朝貢する者として、琉球がある、朝鮮がある。琉球については、明朝の末裔であるとして、まるで一つの家族のように見なしていた。その後、時折外交関係が途絶えることもあったが、島津氏の軍艦が西に向かって以来、すっかり従属し、永続的に我が国の属国となった。それ以後、時に応じて入朝し、礼典を整備し、怠ることを敢えてしなかった期間は、既に二百年余りになる。ああ、なんと盛んなことではないか。私は既に七十歳を超えたが、幸いにもその入貢を親しく見ることができたのも、また度々のことであった。往年、かつてその概要を述べ、入貢紀略一巻を作成し、

Preface to the Brief Record of Ryukyu Tribute Missions【One square seal】
Beyond the seas, those who ride the winds and tides to pay tribute to our country include Ryukyu and Korea. As for Ryukyu, considering it to be descendants of the Ming dynasty, we regarded them as if they were one family. Later, diplomatic relations were sometimes interrupted, but since the Shimazu clan's warships sailed west, they completely submitted and became our vassal state permanently. Since then, they have come to court from time to time, maintaining proper ceremonial protocols without daring to neglect them for over two hundred years already. How magnificent this has been! I am already over seventy years old, and I have been fortunate to personally witness their tribute missions on multiple occasions.
