人二暇乞し互ニ涙ら催し相なかの「リコーヂ」よりハ色々
餞別物もらひ受上船仕り候「フイチセル」ハ「キヤンフンコーマン」へ
兄弟之事念頃二相頼ミ相別申候寅右衛門義ハ「フイ
チセル」存慮を以前船へ相頼ミ上船いたし罷在候處
俄に心変り仕り各少し此所ニ居留り度且船中に
腹黒き人間之趣にそ又上陸いたし候此船ハさる国へ
のり付乱ぼふしたる由後に承り申候無程「キヤンフンコーマン」
開帆仕り日之直下諸島辺より初そと鯨漁し
翌年三月頃日本八丈島近辺へ参り候処風あしく
着岸相調ふ申東へのりとある国近ニ至り「キヤンフン
コーマン」申候は此は日本之支配地「マツマへ」と云ところなり
是より帰り給ふべしとて北かけ之磯へ船を着申候
初は篝火を焚磯辺を守る躰ニ見へ候へ共船着申候而
は一人も見へ不申「キヤンフンカーマン」兄弟を伴ひ上陸仕り
こゝかれ見廻り小家二軒見当り候得共人は居
不申詮方無之是より唯二人帰り可申旨申
達候處「キヤンフンカーマン」承知不仕人もなき所へ揚置
候義本意ニ非す又々便りも可有之ひとます
船に乗べしと申ニ付其意ニ随ひ又上船仕り東へ
のり出し處々鯨漁致し日之光を見不申事
四十日計して南へのり出し十月頃「ウワホー」に帰航
仕候「キヤンフンカーマン」も気之毒に思候様子にて又よき
便有之候節送り可申とて相別兄弟上陸仕り候

参り寅右衛門に面会し、帰朝の約束をして親しい
人に暇乞いをし、互いに涙を催し別れた。かの「リコーヂ」からは色々な
餞別の品をもらい受けて乗船した。「フィチセル」は「キャプテン・コーマン」へ
兄弟のことを懇切に頼み、別れを告げた。寅右衛門は「フィ
チセル」の配慮で前もって船に頼み込まれ乗船していたが、
急に心変わりをして「皆、少しここに留まりたい。また船中に
腹黒い人間がいるらしい」と再び上陸した。この船はある国に
到着して難破したと後に聞いた。程なく「キャプテン・コーマン」は
出帆し、日の真下の諸島辺りから初めて鯨漁をし、
翌年三月頃日本の八丈島近辺へ来たが風が悪く
着岸がうまくいかず、東へ進んでとある国の近くに至り、「キャプテン・
コーマン」が申すには「これは日本の支配地「マツマエ」というところだ。
ここから帰りなさい」といって北向きの磯へ船を着けた。
初めは篝火を焚いて磯辺を守る様子に見えたが、船が着いて
からは一人も見えなかった。「キャプテン・コーマン」は兄弟を伴って上陸し、
あちこち見回って小屋二軒を見つけたが人は住んで
いなかった。仕方なく「ここから二人だけで帰るように」と申し
伝えたところ、「キャプテン・コーマン」は承知せず「人もない所に置き去りに
するのは本意ではない。また別の便もあるだろうから、ひとまず
船に乗りなさい」と申すので、その意に従って再び乗船し、東へ
進み出て各所で鯨漁をし、日の光を見ない日が
四十日ほど続いて南へ進み、十月頃「オアフ」に帰航
した。「キャプテン・コーマン」も気の毒に思う様子で「また良い
便があるときに送ってあげよう」といって別れ、兄弟は上陸した。

They went and met with Toraemon, made promises for their return to Japan, and bade farewell to their
close acquaintances, shedding tears as they parted. From that "Ricord" they received various
farewell gifts and boarded the ship. "Fichsel" earnestly entrusted the brothers to "Captain Cofman"
and said his farewells. Toraemon had been arranged to board the ship beforehand through "Fi-
chsel's" consideration, but
suddenly changed his mind, saying "Everyone, I want to stay here a little longer. Also, there seems to be
a malicious person on the ship," and went ashore again. We later heard that this ship arrived at some country
and was wrecked. Before long, "Captain Cofman"
set sail and began whaling around the islands directly under the sun,
and around March of the following year came near Hachijojima of Japan, but the wind was bad and
they could not land properly. Sailing east to near a certain country, "Captain
Cofman" said, "This is a territory under Japan's control called 'Matsumae.'
You should return from here," and anchored the ship at a north-facing shore.
At first it appeared that beacon fires were lit and the shore was being guarded, but after the ship arrived,
not a single person could be seen. "Captain Cofman" accompanied the brothers ashore and
looked around everywhere, finding two small huts, but no people were
living there. Having no choice, he told them "You two should return from here,"
but "Captain Cofman" would not agree, saying "It is not my intention to abandon you in a place with no people.
There will be other opportunities, so for now
please board the ship again." Following his wishes, they boarded again, sailed east,
and whaled in various places. For about
forty days they saw no sunlight, then sailed south, returning to "Oahu" around October.
"Captain Cofman" also seemed to feel sorry for them, saying "When there is another good
opportunity I will send you," and they parted as the brothers went ashore.
