作法ニ候へ者是等之沙汰にも不被及釣り候魚をバ
四辻之魚市有之所へ持出売なと仕り光陰を送
り罷在候中五右衛門義かの御僧躰之人「ミンハレカ」
方ゟ被相雇参り居候処「シヨレン」と申而法談之様なるも
有之其余衆中ニ而五右衛門と呼び其方ハ此方を見忘
れたりやといハれ候間見申候處かの「フイチセル」ニ而御座候
いかて見忘可申哉命之親にて候ものをと最前之
礼謝を申述重助之病死とも語候處殊之外愁歎
之躰ニ而拙者之水主いたし居候「キヤンフンカーフン」と申者
此度鯨船を仕立日本近辺江漁事ニ参る筈ニ候間
便船を以貴様共を日本江送り可申心得ニ候處早一人ハ
なき人となりたりさこそ物悲しく故郷恋しく思らめ
重助事ハせんかたなし万次郎ハ拙者故国ニ罷在麁
末なる扱ニ而も無之無恙候間気遣申間敷三人申合
急き帰国之用意いたすへし「キャンフンカーマン」にハよき
様ニ頼み遣すべしと念頃二申同道ニてかの浜辺へ参り
家居を見合し眉を蹙しが傳蔵がとり合せ出したる
桶を腰掛ニし扨〳〵風流なるわひすまひ哉と打笑
是迄之暮方を委細傳蔵へ相尋さきに五右衛門に
申候通申延明日湊へ参るべしとて銀銭二枚出しくれ
立出候間翌日五右衛門湊口へ参り候処「フイチセル」早速出
迎へ其躰ニ而者日本へ帰るべからす是なりとも着て
故郷へ帰るへしとて羅紗之衣類を初色々之物を
出しくれ一荷担帰り兄弟諸共大二悦び則「ハナロ」ノ湊へ

四つ辻の魚市がある所へ持ち出して売るなどして時を過ごし
ていたところ、五右衛門はかの僧侶のような人「ミンハレカ」の
所から雇われて来ていた。そこで「ショレン」といって法談のようなものも
あり、その他大勢の中で五右衛門と呼び、「お前はこちらを見忘れ
たか」と言われたので見てみると、かの「フィチセル」であった。
どうして見忘れるであろうか、命の親であるのに、と最初の
礼謝を申し述べ、重助の病死のことも語ったところ、ことのほか愁嘆
の様子で、「私の水夫をしている「キャンフンカーフン」という者が
今度鯨船を仕立てて日本近辺へ漁に行く予定であるので、
便船によってあなた方を日本へ送ってあげるつもりでいたところ、もう一人は
亡き人となってしまった。さぞかし物悲しく故郷恋しく思うであろう。
重助のことはせんかたないが、万次郎は私が故国にいる間、粗
末な扱いでもなく無事であるので心配することはない。三人相談して
急いで帰国の用意をすべきである。「キャンフンカーマン」にはよい
ようにお願いしよう」と懇切に申し、同道でかの浜辺へ行き、
住まいを見て眉をひそめたが、伝蔵が取り合わせて出した
桶を腰掛けにして、「さてさて風流なわび住まいだな」と苦笑い。
これまでの暮らし方を詳しく伝蔵に尋ね、先ほど五右衛門に
申した通りを話し、「明日湊へ行こう」といって銀銭二枚を出してくれて
立ち去った。翌日五右衛門が湊口へ行くと、「フィチセル」がすぐに出
迎え、「その格好では日本へ帰れない。これでも着て
故郷へ帰りなさい」といって、ラシャの衣類を初めとして色々な物を
出してくれた。一荷物担いで帰り、兄弟ともども大いに喜び、すぐに「ハナロ」の湊へ
