一文武稽古盛なり槍刀の遣ひ方もあり最早馬
を絡行す驢馬の類もあり武備に用ゆる處は

一万次郎アメリカにてハチヨンマンと云なり異人メへシタ チヨン
マンと呼メへシタとハ日本の殿と云が如し彼国惣て
逆に云ふ故に殿と云ふ上に付る紅毛にて先生と
云事メリアと云よし
一万次郎フイツルに従ひて或時ハ独立にて鯨舟に乗
り世界を廻る事度々なり日本の沖をも四遍り
五遍振り奥州上陸し志なれ共遂す洋中に而
日本の商船ニあひパンを二ツ桶贈しあり鯨
六七百本取る時ハ帰山あり北海入る時ハ船艫底
江鋸を仕懸け氷を割て通行す海中鯨ハ寒
気封て鈍くして取易し
一アメリカ船中ニ色々の道具を入るニ何百里来りしと
云事を知る器もあり
一万次郎南アメリカ国金山に行金を掘る此地温
泉ありて金は自然湧きかたまりたるもの多し
一万次郎アメリカニ在し時フイツヘル殊之外寵愛し
学問なとも好く出来るに付てハ往々家相続
の志念にて己が姪を以て縁組致し万次郎を
フイツヘルの義理にて右女を妻として居けれハ
女をバ甚不便ニハ思ひしが共帰国の情切なりし

一、文武の稽古が盛んである。槍や刀の使い方もある。もはや馬を乗り回している。ロバの類もあり、武備に用いるところは日本の馬のようである。
一、万次郎はアメリカでは「ハチヨンマン」と呼ばれている。異人は「メへシタ チヨンマン」と呼ぶ。「メへシタ」とは日本の「殿」と言うようなものである。あの国は総て逆に言う故に、「殿」と言う上に付ける。紅毛人では先生ということを「メリア」と言うとのこと。
一、万次郎はフィッツェルに従って、ある時は独立して捕鯨船に乗り、世界を回ることが度々ある。日本の沖をも四度五度回り、奥州上陸の志があったが、ついに果たせなかった。洋中にて日本の商船に会い、パンを二つ桶で贈したことがある。鯨を六七百本取る時は帰山がある。北海に入る時は船の舳先底に鋸を仕掛け、氷を割って通行する。海中の鯨は寒気で閉ざされて鈍くなって取りやすい。
一、アメリカ船中に色々の道具を入れるのに、何百里来たかということを知る器もある。
一、万次郎は南アメリカ国の金山に行き金を掘った。この地には温泉があって、金は自然に湧き固まったものが多い。
一、万次郎がアメリカにいた時、フィッツェルが殊の外寵愛し、学問なども良くできるので、往々家相続の志念にて己が姪を以て縁組を致し、万次郎をフィッツェルの義理にて、その女を妻として居させた。女を甚だ不憫には思ったが、帰国の情が切なったので、止むを得ずしてアメリカ国を出帆の節に文を細かく
