々と認人に馮み置しとそ今におゐても恋し
き情忘れかたき由なり
一ハフ国より携来る道具又琉球にて貰ひたる
道具等長持三棹尤小なる長持なり其内
一世界之割る鏡 一世界図七枚《割書：内四枚長崎に｜御取上》
一亜米利幹にて掘ける金 一書物数十巻
一地理道具品々 一鉄砲三挺
一衣類
右之長崎にて御取上ヶ
一蒲団 一ツ 一枕 一衣類品々
一世界図 三枚 一鍋釜之類
一鴉片煙草 少々 一コンパツ
右之外猶有之共大略は右之と通万次郎へ御渡しの品
一万次郎携来る道具に鑢（ヤスリ）の類又ハ樽屋道具
の類多し是ハ船具等直すものなり
一琉球国より薩州の御作配にて薩州へ渡り
夫より長崎に於て月代なとし日本人の姿
と成る
一長崎に於て揚家入被 仰付尤揚家入と云とも
寛かなる事にて浄瑠璃かたりの類来りなと
する此時ゟ次第に日本詞おほへる事
一アメリカ国日本詩歌の類あり又道中にて唱
歌を謡ふ其文句
向ふ山坂より恋しと思ふ人がバンリウ〳〵来る
現代語訳
々と認めて人に託し置いたとのことで、今においても恋しい情を忘れがたいとのことである。
一、アメリカ国より携えて来た道具、また琉球にて貰った道具等、長持三棹、もっとも小なる長持である。その内容は
一、世界を写した鏡 一、世界図七枚（内四枚は長崎にて御取り上げ）
一、アメリカにて掘った金 一、書物数十巻
一、地理道具品々 一、鉄砲三挺
一、衣類
右のうち長崎にて御取り上げになったもの
一、蒲団 一つ 一、枕 一、衣類品々
一、世界図 三枚 一、鍋釜の類
一、阿片煙草 少々 一、コンパス
右の外になお有るが、大略は右の通り。万次郎へ御渡しの品
一、万次郎が携えて来た道具に鑢（ヤスリ）の類、または樽屋道具の類が多い。これは船具等を直すものである。
一、琉球国より薩摩藩の御采配にて薩摩へ渡り、それより長崎において月代などをして日本人の姿となる。
一、長崎において揚屋入りを仰せ付けられた。もっとも揚屋入りと言っても寛やかなことにて、浄瑠璃語りの類が来るなどする。この時より次第に日本の言葉を覚えること。
一、アメリカ国に日本の詩歌の類があり、また道中にて唱歌を謡う。その文句
「向こう山坂より恋しと思う人がバンリウ〳〵来る」

...and wrote it down in detail and entrusted it to someone, and even now he cannot forget those tender feelings of longing.
1. The tools brought from America and the tools received in Ryukyu were contained in three small storage chests (nagamochi). Their contents included:
- One mirror showing the world - Seven world maps (four of which were confiscated in Nagasaki)
- Gold dug in America - Several dozen books
- Various geographical instruments - Three guns
- Clothing
Items confiscated in Nagasaki:
- One futon - One pillow - Various clothing items
- Three world maps - Pots and kettles
- A small amount of opium tobacco - Compass
Besides the above, there were other items, but these are the main ones. These are the items given to Manjiro.
1. Among the tools Manjiro brought were many files and barrel-making tools. These are for repairing ship equipment and such.
1. From Ryukyu, under the jurisdiction of Satsuma domain, he was transferred to Satsuma, and from there went to Nagasaki where he had his topknot shaved and took on the appearance of a Japanese person.
1. In Nagasaki, he was ordered to stay in a detention house (agaya-iri). However, this detention was quite lenient, with joruri storytellers and such coming to visit. From this time, he gradually began to remember Japanese language.
1. There are Japanese poems and songs in America, and they sing songs while traveling. The lyrics go:
"From beyond the mountain slope, the person I long for comes dancing [banriu banriu]"
