稽古可致旨右同人申渡同十亥年七月廿九日私手附
測量御用出役被 仰付御用相勤候内御扶持方
三人扶持被下置候旨水野越前守殿御書付を以
被仰渡同十一子年八月五日父長左衛門跡式被下置
当丑年迄出役三ヶ年相勤罷在候
右東一郎儀一体人物宜差働も有之手跡算術も
相応に仕一廉御用立候者にて出役之方常々出精相勤
申候間相応之御場所明キも御座候はゝ奉願度存
罷在候処去月廿四日西丸表火之番大島源左衛門病気
に付小普請に入候旨及承候間可相成御儀に御座候はゝ
同人儀兼て心願御場所にも御座候間右明キ跡え
被 仰付被下候様仕度尤東一郎頭坪内左京ゟも
相願候由於私も同様奉願候右東一郎父西村長左衛門儀
久々私手附にて御用向も多年相勤心願之儀も
御座候に付其都度々奉願候内病気に付帰番仕
心望不相果引続東一郎儀私手附に罷成出精

右の者は天保九戌年七月十九日、部屋住みより林肥後守へ伺いを立てた上、同役の山路弥左衛門の御役所において暦法推算・測量等を稽古するよう、右同人より申し渡され、同十亥年七月二十九日、私配下の測量御用出役に仰せ付けられ、御用を勤めている間、御扶持方として三人扶持を下し置かれる旨、水野越前守殿の御書付をもって仰せ渡され、同十一子年八月五日、父長左衛門の跡式を下し置かれ、当丑年まで出役三ヶ年を勤めております。
右東一郎は一体に人物もよく、働きぶりも良好で、筆跡・算術も相応にでき、一廉の御用に立つ者であり、出役の方も常々精進して勤めておりますので、相応の御場所に空きもございましたら、お願いしたく存じておりましたところ、先月二十四日、西丸表火之番の大島源左衛門が病気により小普請に入った旨承りましたので、もし可能な御儀でございましたら、同人はかねてより心願の御場所でもございますので、右の空いた跡へ仰せ付けていただけますよう致したく、もっとも東一郎の頭である坪内左京からも願い出ている由で、私も同様にお願い申し上げます。右東一郎の父西村長左衛門は長らく私の配下として御用向きを多年勤め、心願の儀もございましたので、その都度お願い申し上げておりましたが、病気により帰番し、心望を果たせず、引き続き東一郎が私の配下となり精進して勤めておりますので、願いの通り仰せ付けていただけましたら、私としても有り難く、また他の配下の者どもの励みにもなると存じますので、この段ひとえにお願い申し上げます。以上

This person, on the 19th day of the 7th month of Tenpō 9 (1838), Year of the Dog, after consulting with Hayashi Higo-no-kami from his position as a retainer living in family quarters, was instructed by the same person to practice calendar calculation, surveying, and other skills at the office of his colleague Yamaji Yazaemon. On the 29th day of the 7th month of the same 10th year, Year of the Boar, he was appointed as my subordinate surveyor on official duty, and while serving in this capacity, he was granted a support allowance for three persons through a written directive from Lord Mizuno Echizen-no-kami. On the 5th day of the 8th month of the same 11th year, Year of the Rat, he was granted succession to his father Chōzaemon's position, and has served for three years in this role until the current Year of the Ox.
This Tōichirō is generally of good character with commendable work performance, possesses adequate skills in calligraphy and arithmetic, and is capable of handling significant official duties. He has consistently applied himself diligently to his surveyor duties, so I had hoped to request a suitable position should one become available. Last month on the 24th day, I learned that Ōshima Genzaemon, fire watchman at the Western Citadel, entered the construction reserve corps due to illness. If it would be possible, since this has long been the position this person desired, I would like him to be appointed to fill this vacancy. Furthermore, Tsubouchi Sakyō, who is Tōichirō's superior, has also made this request, and I similarly petition for the same. Tōichirō's father, Nishimura Chōzaemon, served under me for many years handling various official duties and had his own aspirations, for which I repeatedly made requests on his behalf, but due to illness he had to return to regular duty without fulfilling his hopes. Now Tōichirō continues as my subordinate, serving with dedication, so if he could be appointed as requested, I would be most grateful, and it would serve as encouragement to my other subordinates as well. I humbly request this matter be considered. The above.
