急（いそ）ぎ戸を閉（とづ）べし又蚕 不浄（ふじやう）まけとて赤色（あかいろ）になり又は半身（はんしん）赤（あか）くなり或は
俄（にはか）にちゞけて死（し）する事有此時は急ぎ桃（もゝ）の葉（は）を火にふすべてよしといふ又
甲州辺（かうしうへん）はこくさぎの葉を採（と）り此 汁（しる）をもみ出し少し桑にかけて喰（くは）すとも
いふ又 極上（ごくじやう）の酒（さけ）を桑に吹（ふき）かけ喰（くは）す国もあり宜（よろ）しきに随（したが）ふべし
　又云 蚕（かひこ）幼（おさな）き黒子（くろご）の時 長（なが）さ弐歩斗 横（よこ）壱 歩（ぶ）斗の虫（むし）多（おゝ）く出来（でき）蚕を吸ひ殺（ころ）す
　事あり《割書：是を羽虫（はむし）とも又｜黒（くろ）むしともいふ》此虫多くわく時は川魚（かはうを）又は海（うみ）魚の鰭（ひれ）などを藁（わら）
　の苞（つと）に入蚕の傍（かたはら）なる高（たか）き所につり置べし彼（かの）黒（くろ）むし臭（くさ）き匂（にほ）ひに集（あつま）り
　苞（つと）へたかるなり其時 静（しづか）に苞を取 遠（とを）き野 辺（べ）に持行（もちゆき）虫を払（はら）ひ又 元（もと）の
　所へつり置 幾度（いくだひ）も取べし元来（ぐはんらい）此むしは寒（さむ）き年には少（すくな）し暖気（だんき）成
　年（とし）に多し是は蚕の尻（しり）がへなど手抜（てぬき）あれば多（おゝく）わくなり例年（れいねん）蚕出る

　家作（やつくり）は第一 暑湿（しよしつ）を除（よけ）る様（やう）に高（たか）く作（つく）るべし空（そら）に風抜（かぜぬき）の穴（あな）又は窓（まど）多く明（あけ）
　東面北（ひがしおもてきた）に戸を明（あく）べし南（みなみ）は少（ちいさ）き窓（まと）をあけ何（いつ）れも戸の明閉（あけとぢ）自由（じゆう）にす
　べし日の照（て）りこむは甚（はなはだ）悪（あし）し元来（もとより）夜分（やぶん）は四分（しはう）の陽気（やうき）醒（さめ）て朝（あさ）五ツ
　過（すぎ）までは至極（しごく）涼（すゞ）しきものなり昼（ひる）九ツ前より暖（あたゝか）になり八ツ時分（じぶん）より
　蒸（むし）々とほめくなり西うけの家などは別して夕日（ゆふひ）の火気（くわき）に蚕を
　いため大ひに損（そん）する事 間々（まゝ）ある事なり此 家敷（やしき）は西の方へ樹木（じゆもく）を植（うへ）
　て夕日（ゆふひ）の火気（くはき）をふせぐべし又 寒（さむ）きとて蚕に屏風（びやうぶ）など引廻（ひきまは）し又
　は紙帳（しちやう）をはり抔（など）し格別（かくべつ）風（かぜ）の入を止めむさ〳〵とほめかす事 悪（あし）し
　陽気（やうき）は昼夜（ちうや）時（とき）々にて替（かは）るなれば家内（かない）何時も同（おなしやう）様にして養
　蚕すべし惣（そう）じて蚕に限（かぎ）らず其 道（みち）を業（げふ）とするには一心（いつしん）のはたらき

【右丁】
急いで戸を閉じるべきである。また蚕が不浄負けといって赤色になり、また半身が赤くなり、あるいは急に縮んで死ぬことがある。この時は急いで桃の葉を火でいぶすとよいという。また甲州辺りではコクサギの葉を採り、この汁をもみ出して少し桑にかけて食べさせるともいう。また極上の酒を桑に吹きかけて食べさせる国もある。よろしきに従うべきである。

また云う。蚕が幼い黒子の時、長さ二分ほど、横一分ほどの虫が多くでき、蚕を吸い殺すことがある（これを羽虫とも、また黒虫ともいう）。この虫が多く湧く時は、川魚または海魚の鰭などを藁の包みに入れ、蚕のそばの高い所に吊るして置くべきである。あの黒虫は臭い匂いに集まり、包みにたかるのである。その時静かに包みを取り、遠い野辺に持って行き虫を払い、また元の所に吊るし置き、何度も取るべきである。元来この虫は寒い年には少なく、暖かい年に多い。これは蚕の尻返しなど手抜きがあれば多く湧くのである。例年蚕が出る前に家内をよくよく掃除すべきである。この虫は縁の下などのゴミより生じると見えた。

蚕家作り仕様のこと（付：屋敷の善悪のこと）

家作りは第一に暑湿を避けるように高く作るべきである。空に風抜きの穴または窓を多く開け、東面北に戸を開くべきである。南は小さい窓を開け、いずれも戸の開閉を自由にすべきである。日の照り込むのは甚だ悪い。元来夜分は四方の陽気が冷めて朝五つ過ぎまでは至極涼しいものである。昼九つ前より暖かになり、八つ時分より蒸し暑くほめくのである。西向きの家などは特に夕日の火気に蚕を痛め、大いに損することがしばしばある。この家屋敷は西の方へ樹木を植えて夕日の火気を防ぐべきである。また寒いといって蚕に屏風などを引き回し、または紙帳を張るなどして、格別風の入るのを止め、むさ苦しくほめかすことは悪い。陽気は昼夜時々によって変わるものであるから、家内何時も同様にして養蚕すべきである。総じて蚕に限らず、その道を業とするには一心の働きが

One should quickly close the doors. Also, silkworms sometimes turn red due to what is called "impurity affliction," or their bodies become half red, or they suddenly shrivel and die. At such times, it is good to quickly burn peach leaves and fumigate with the smoke. Also, in the Kai Province area, they pick the leaves of Orixa japonica, extract this juice, and sprinkle it lightly on mulberry for the silkworms to eat. There are also regions where they spray the finest sake on mulberry for the silkworms to eat. One should follow what is most suitable.

It is also said that when silkworms are young black larvae, insects about two bu long and one bu wide appear in large numbers and suck the silkworms to death (these are called wing insects or black insects). When these insects multiply greatly, one should put river fish or sea fish fins in straw bundles and hang them in high places near the silkworms. Those black insects will gather around the foul smell and swarm on the bundles. At that time, quietly take the bundles, carry them to distant fields, brush off the insects, hang them back in their original place, and repeat this many times. Originally, these insects are few in cold years but many in warm years. They multiply greatly when there is negligence in tasks like turning the silkworms. Every year before the silkworms emerge, one should thoroughly clean the house interior. These insects appear to arise from dirt under the verandas and such places.

On the construction specifications of silkworm houses (Appendix: On the good and bad aspects of building sites)

House construction should first be built high to avoid heat and humidity. Many ventilation holes or windows should be opened in the roof, and doors should face east and north. Small windows should be opened on the south side, and all doors should be freely openable and closable. Sunlight shining in is extremely bad. Originally, at night the warmth from all directions cools, and it remains extremely cool until past the hour of the Hare in the morning (around 7 AM). It becomes warm from before the hour of the Horse at noon (before 11 AM), and from around the hour of the Monkey (around 3 PM) it becomes steamy and sultry. Houses facing west especially damage silkworms with the fire energy of the evening sun, often causing great harm. For such house sites, trees should be planted on the western side to block the fire energy of the evening sun. Also, it is bad to surround silkworms with folding screens because of cold, or to hang paper curtains and such, specially blocking the entry of wind and making it stuffy and sultry. Since the atmospheric conditions change with day and night and from time to time, sericulture should be practiced keeping the house interior always the same.
