中国原産の種である。冬でも枯れない。形状はみょうがに似ており、高さは三、四尺（約90-120cm）。葉は厚くて光沢がある。四、五寸（約12-15cm）の穂を作り、一節に二つずつ萼をつけて花を開く。形は杜若（かきつばた）に似ているがやや大きく、淡紅色である。実は紅色で山薑子に似ている。これを紅荳蔲と呼ぶ。時珍の説に合致する。根は山薑に似ているが肥大している。

This is a Chinese species. It does not wither in winter. Its form resembles myoga, with a height of three to four shaku (approximately 90-120cm). The leaves are thick and glossy. It forms spikes of four to five sun (approximately 12-15cm), with flowers opening in pairs of calyxes per node. The shape resembles iris but is somewhat larger and pale red in color. The fruit is red and resembles mountain ginger seeds. This is called red cardamom. It corresponds to Shizhen's explanation. The root resembles mountain ginger but is enlarged.
