杜若 青のくまたけらん
長崎では和の高良薑と呼ぶ。形状はくまたけらんに似ており、高さは一尺ほど。茎は緑色で、暖地であるため冬は枯れる。花の形も高良薑に似て白色、中心部は淡紅色である。葉、根ともに良い香りがある。

根は黄色で味は辛い。弘景の説によると「葉は生姜に似ており文理があり、高良薑に似ているが細かく、味は辛香である」という。また『広東新語』に「鮮草果、人多く種えて以て香料と為す。蓋し即ち杜若なり、菜中の草果に非ざるなり。其の苗は縮砂に似て、三月に開花して穂を作す。色は白く微かに紅い。五、六月に実を結ぶ。其の根は葉に勝り、味は辛く温を以て能く瘴気を避く」という。これである。先輩がかきつばたや野夫明佳等を充てるのは皆誤りである。別に詳しい考察がある。

Iris (tojaku) Blue alpine iris
In Nagasaki it is called "wa no kōryōkyō" (Japanese galangal). Its form resembles alpine iris, about one shaku (30cm) in height. The stem is green, and being in a warm region, it withers in winter. The flower shape also resembles galangal, white in color with a pale red center. Both leaves and roots have a pleasant fragrance.

The root is yellow and tastes pungent. According to Hongjing's theory, "the leaves resemble ginger and have texture, similar to galangal but finer, with a pungent aromatic taste." Also, in "Guangdong Xinyu" it states: "Fresh grass fruit - people often cultivate it to use as spice. It is indeed iris, not the grass fruit found among vegetables. Its seedlings resemble cardamom, flowering in the third month forming spikes. The color is white with slight red. In the fifth and sixth months it bears fruit. Its root is superior to the leaves, with a pungent taste and warming properties that can ward off miasmatic qi." This is it. The predecessors' identification of it as Japanese iris or other plants are all errors. There is a separate detailed examination.
