藁を焚くのは火気を和らげるためである。繭の性質は良いといっても、右の心得をおろそかにして蛹を出させてしまえば、これまでの辛労が無駄になってしまう。
ここから養蚕中の万般の心得を記す。
一、すべて養蚕中は雨露に濡れた桑を与えてはならない。病蚕になり繭も悪くなる。いつでも前の日に心がけて貯えて用いるべきである。しかしながらあまり乾き過ぎたものは葉も悪いものなので、桑の上へ差し支えない木の枝葉をかけ置き、霧を受けて少し濡れる程度に心がけて貯えて用いるべきである。数日の雨天などの時は、濡れている桑の葉を取り、新しい筵へ薄く散らして乾かして用いる。このような時期に至って刈り取った桑があれば、枝桑にして掛け干しするので
