右のカピタン・シュトゥルレルの話説について、私の心に黙っていることができない思いがあるので、愚かな者の微小な志を述べることは次の通りである。
一、およそ西洋の歴史は、彼の暦数千七百六十九年（明和六年）にオランダにて刊行された万国地誌の中に載せられて詳しい。その後のことは我が国では知る由もなく、まして近時改革された光景については（なおさらである）。

Regarding the account given by Captain Sturler mentioned above, there are thoughts in my humble mind that I cannot keep silent about, so I shall express my foolish and modest intentions as follows:
First, generally speaking, Western history is detailed in the world geography published in Holland in their year 1769 (6th year of Meiwa). As for events thereafter, there is no way for our country to know them, much less the recent revolutionary changes.
