（割書：学校をも設けてその土民に書を読むこと、書することを教えているという。物産は諸獣の皮革が極めて多い）あの西北アメリカの地はもちろんのこと、すべてロシアが蚕食した亜細亜の東北部は皆厳寒で不毛の地であるから食糧が極めて乏しい。故にカムチャツカ、オホーツクをはじめこの地方の諸要塞の食糧は悉く遙か遠い本国より送られているのである。そこで近隣である我が日本と交易して、一つは貨物の利益を得、一つは輸送による食糧調達の労力を省こうとしているのである。

That land of Northwest America goes without saying, but all of the northeastern parts of Asia that Russia has gradually annexed are lands of severe cold and barrenness, so food supplies are extremely scarce. Therefore, the food supplies for the various fortresses in this region, starting with Kamchatka and Okhotsk, are all sent from the distant homeland. Consequently, they seek to trade with our neighboring Japan - on one hand to gain profit from goods, and on the other hand to save the labor of transporting food supplies.
