南部の人民を以てボナパルトを防ごうと欲したけれども、彼の勢力が強いため、避けて舟でセットに退去した。こうしてボナパルトは自ら兵をマイの野に集めて点検したところ一万八千であった。二万ばかりは既に諸方に派遣していたけれども、残る所の調練された強兵が四、五万あったので、第六月十二日、自らその軍を総べて和蘭国境に向かい、その処に在るプロイセン、オーストリアの軍に敵対しようとし、十四日その地に到着した。

[The royalists] wanted to use the people of the southern region to defend against Bonaparte, but because his power was strong, they avoided [confrontation] and retreated by ship to Cette. Thus Bonaparte himself gathered his troops at the field of Mai for inspection, [finding] eighteen thousand. About twenty thousand had already been dispatched to various places, but since there remained forty to fifty thousand well-trained strong soldiers, on the twelfth day of the sixth month, he led all his army toward the Dutch border, intending to fight against the Prussian and Austrian armies stationed there, and arrived at that place on the fourteenth day.
