敵に立ち向かって諸軍を励まし、昔から伝わるオランダ国の武威を輝かせたのは、最初に王子自ら進んで強く敵を打ち払ったからである。しかし忽ち敵兵の中に包囲され、ほとんど危険な状況となったところ、従騎がそこに突入し、力戦してこれを救った。その苦戦の中で流れ弾が王子の左肩に当たり、味方は顔色を失ったが、王子はこれにひるまず、かえって味方の勇気を激発させて、ついに敵を打ち払ったのである。

Facing the enemy and encouraging all the troops, what made the martial prowess of the Netherlands shine as it had been transmitted from ancient times was that the prince himself first advanced and strongly repelled the enemy. However, he was suddenly surrounded by enemy soldiers and was in almost grave danger, when his retainer cavalry charged in and rescued him through fierce fighting. During that bitter battle, a stray bullet struck the prince's left shoulder and his allies turned pale, but the prince did not flinch at this. Instead, he inspired his allies' courage, and they finally repelled the enemy.
