現代語訳
○新吉原・日本堤は、震動することがとりわけ甚だしく、大地はたちまちに裂け破れ、一帯に白い気（けむり・霧状のもの）が立ち上った。その気は斜めに飛び去り、金龍山浅草寺の五重の塔の九輪を折り曲げ、四方八方へ散り飛んだ。その光は見る者の目を射るほど凄まじかったという。

英語訳
○ In Shin-Yoshiwara and along Nihon-zutsumi (the embankment), the shaking was particularly violent. The ground suddenly split and cracked open, and a white vapor (or mist) rose up across the entire area. This vapor shot off at an angle and struck the nine-ringed finial (kurin) atop the five-story pagoda of Kinryū-zan Sensō-ji temple in Asakusa, bending and breaking it, scattering it in all eight directions. The light it emitted was so intense, it was said to pierce the eyes of all who witnessed it.
