現代語訳
度々の揺り返しに、またもや大地震があるのではないかと人々は恐れ、大通りに畳を敷き、屏風や戸、障子、あるいは大事なものを用心のためにと持ち出した荷物などを積んで囲いとなし、ここに寝ることが一般的であった。このようにして七八日の頃に至り、地震が漸く薄らぐにしたがって、追々野宿をする者も少なくなり、十四日終日雨が降った。この時に至って野宿は止んだ。

Due to the repeated aftershocks, people feared that another great earthquake might occur. They laid tatami mats on the main streets and piled up folding screens, doors, sliding paper screens, and belongings they had carried out as precious items for safety, creating enclosures where they slept. This became a common practice. After seven or eight days had passed, as the earthquakes gradually subsided, fewer people camped outdoors. On the 14th day, it rained all day, and at this point the outdoor camping ceased.
