┃銀壱貫目をときんへ五わりにして十年之
あひたに十たひわたして何ほとに成といふ時に

銀壱貫目を時金（月賦）へ五割にして、十年の
間に十度渡して、何ほどになるかというと、
［合わせて五十七貫六百六十五匁四厘になる。］
計算の方法として、一貫目を右に置き、左に一貫五百匁と置いて、
十度掛ければ、右の金額になる。
元銀七十六貫八百匁を貸し申す時、一ヶ月につき八分の
貸しという。この八分というのは、月に百匁につき八分ずつの
ことである。右の元銀の利分、六ヶ月分はいくらになるかというと、
［利銀合わせて三貫六百八十六匁四分なり。］
計算の方法として、七十六貫八百匁に八分を掛ければ、六百十四匁四分

となる。これは壱ヶ月分である。これに六ヶ月を掛ければ利銀となる。
また右の元銀七十六貫八百匁に、八分の利にして、六ヶ月間
利に利を掛けては、 ［三貫七百六十匁九分二厘になる。］
計算の方法として、百匁八分を左に置き、これを右の元銀に六度掛ければ、
元利合わせて八十貫五百六十匁九分二厘になる。この内から元銀を引くのである。
貸し米六十石あり、三年の間貸して、利に利を加える時に、
はじめの年は 三割
二年めは 二割 右三年の間の本利合わせて何ほどかというに、
三年めは 二割
［元利合わせて百二石九斗六升になるという。］
計算の方法として、元の六十石を右に置き、十三を掛ければ七十八石になる。
また十二を掛ければ九十三石六斗になる。また十一を掛ければ右（の答え）になる。

In the method: place 1 kan on the right, place 1 kan 500 monme on the left, and multiply twelve times to obtain the above amount.
When principal silver of 76 kan 800 monme is lent at a rate of 8 bu per month — this "8 bu" meaning 8 bu per 100 monme per month — what is the interest on the said principal for 6 months?
[Answer: The interest silver totals 3 kan 686 monme 4 bu.]
In the method: multiply 76 kan 800 monme by 8 bu (0.008), which gives 614 monme 4 bu.

This is the amount for one month. Multiply this by 6 months to obtain the total interest.
Again, for the same principal of 76 kan 800 monme, at a rate of 8 bu, compounding interest upon interest over 6 months:

In the method: place 100 monme 8 bu on the left, and multiply this against the principal on the right six times; this gives a combined principal and interest of 80 kan 560 monme 9 bu 2 rin. Subtract the principal from this to obtain the interest.
There are 60 koku of rice lent out; when interest is compounded over three years, with:
Year 1: 3 wari (30%)
Year 2: 2 wari (20%) — what is the total of principal and interest over these three years?
Year 3: 2 wari (20%)
[Answer: The total of principal and interest comes to 102 koku 9 to 6 shō.]
In the method: place the principal of 60 koku on the right, multiply by 13 to get 78 koku. Then multiply by 12 to get 93 koku 6 to. Then multiply by 11 to obtain the above answer.
