【中巻卅丁裏】
法に四寸四分￣ニ五寸をかくれは廿二と成是を開平法
をもつてわるへし
┃右の五寸￣ニ四寸四分の角二間木を五寸四方の角￣ニして
なかさなにほとに成そといふ時に

現代語訳
【中巻三十丁裏】
方法に四寸四分に五寸を掛ければ二十二となる。これを開平法を用いて割るべし。
右の五寸に四寸四分の角の二間木を五寸四方の角にしたとき、長さはいくらになるかという場合、
[長さ 一間四尺九寸四分という]
方法に四寸四分に五寸を掛ければ二十二となる。これに長さ二間を掛ければ四十四となる。また左に五寸を左右に置いて掛ければ二十五となる。これにて右の四十四を割れば一間と七六（余り）となる。この七六に目盛り六尺五寸を掛ければ一間四尺九寸四分と知るなり。
三寸角の二間木が三百五十本あるとき、五寸角の二間木と

換えるとき、五寸角一本につき三寸角一本ずつを端数（はした）に打って換えるとき、三寸角三百五十本の方で五寸角はいくら取れるかという場合、
[五寸角 九十二本と、四寸四分に五寸 一本という]
方法に三寸を左右に置いて掛ければ九坪となる。これを三百五十本に掛ければ三一五〇となる。これを右に別に置く。また左に五寸を左右に置いて掛ければ二十五坪となる。これにまた九坪を加えるとき三十四坪となる。これにて右の三一五〇を割れば九十二本というところで割り切れて、下に二十二と余るとき、この二十二ばかりを五寸を以て割れば四寸四分に五寸角一本と知るべし。

In the method, multiply 4-sun 4-bu by 5-sun to get 22. Use the square root method (kaiheihō) to divide this.
When the above piece of 2-ken timber with a cross-section of 5-sun by 4-sun-4-bu is made into a 5-sun square timber, how long will it be?
[Answer: 1-ken 4-shaku 9-sun 4-bu in length]
In the method, multiply 4-sun 4-bu by 5-sun to get 22. Multiply this by the length of 2-ken to get 44. Then place 5-sun left and right and multiply to get 25. Divide the above 44 by this to get 1-ken with a remainder of 76. Multiply this remainder of 76 by the scale factor of 6-shaku 5-sun to find the answer: 1-ken 4-shaku 9-sun 4-bu.
When there are 350 pieces of 3-sun square timber of 2-ken length, and one wishes to exchange them for 5-sun square timber of 2-ken length,

with the condition that one extra piece of 3-sun square timber is added for every one piece of 5-sun square timber as a bonus (hashita) upon exchange — how many pieces of 5-sun square timber can be obtained for the 350 pieces of 3-sun square timber?
[Answer: 92 pieces of 5-sun square timber, plus 1 piece of 4-sun-4-bu by 5-sun timber]
In the method, place 3 sun left and right and multiply to get 9 tsubo. Multiply this by 350 pieces to get 3150. Set this aside to the right. Then place 5 sun left and right and multiply to get 25 tsubo. Add 9 tsubo to this to get 34 tsubo. Divide the above 3150 by this to arrive at 92 pieces, and when the remainder below is 22, divide this 22 by 5 sun to find 1 piece of 4-sun-4-bu by 5-sun timber.
