下末 一
子丗人有。内十五人は先腹、残る十五人は当腹也。右之ことく
立ならへて、十にあたるをのけて、又廿にあたるをのけ、廿九人
まてのけて残る一人にあとをゆつりて申といふ時、まゝ母かくの
ことくたてたる也。さてかそへ候へは、先腹乃子十四人まてのき
申時、いま一たひかそへれは、先腹の子みなのき申ゆへに、
一人残りたるまゝ子のいふやうは、あまりはた一双にのき申間、
こゝよりはわれよりかそへられ候へといへは、せひにをよはすして、一人
残りたる先腹の子よりかそへ候へは、当腹の子皆おき先腹一人残る也。

下末 一
子が三十人いる。そのうち十五人は先妻の子、残る十五人は後妻の子である。右のように円形に並べて、十番目に当たる者を除き、また二十番目に当たる者を除き、二十九人まで除いて、残った一人に財産を譲ると言う場合、継母がこのように（子たちを）並べた。さて数えてみると、先妻の子が十四人まで除かれたとき、もう一度数えると先妻の子がみな除かれてしまうので、残った一人の後妻の子が言うには、「あまりはた一双に除かれてしまいますので、ここからは私（の位置）から数えてください」と言ったので、やむを得ず、残った一人の先妻の子の位置から数えたところ、後妻の子がみな残り、先妻の子が一人残ることになった。

There are thirty children. Fifteen of them are children of the first wife, and the remaining fifteen are children of the current wife. They are arranged in a circle as shown to the right, and every tenth person is removed; then every twentieth is removed, continuing until twenty-nine have been removed, with the last remaining one to inherit the estate. The stepmother arranged them in this manner. When counted, just as the fourteenth child of the first wife was being removed, if counted once more, all the children of the first wife would be eliminated. So the one remaining child of the current wife said: "We are being eliminated one pair at a time, so from here, please begin counting from my position." Unable to refuse, they began counting from the position of the one remaining child of the first wife, with the result that all the children of the current wife remained, and only one child of the first wife survived.
