頼朝公は鎌倉の大小名を
召して仰せられるには、先に
重忠にはかせて
文武の賞を
振り分けた。鎌倉の
面々は七湯にて
晒し、大磯にて
身性を振るわせ、
文武二道に
導かせむ。
自今以後
それぞれに
文武の道を
学ぶ
べし。必ず
下郎
倉
の
心を
持つ
べからず。今にも
戦があるならば
とろとろで戦が
なるものか。文とも
武ッとも言って見ろ。
いずれも
ありがたく
存じ奉て
まいります。

英語訳
Lord Yoritomo summoned the great and small lords of Kamakura and proclaimed: "Previously, I had Shigetada distribute the rewards for literary and martial arts. The members of Kamakura shall purify themselves at the seven hot springs and strengthen their character at Oiso, and be guided in the two paths of letters and arms. From this day forward, each of you must study the ways of both literary and martial arts. You must never harbor the base hearts of lowly servants. If there should be war now, how could one fight properly while being sluggish? Show me your literary and martial prowess!"
