英語訳
In connection with O-Yoshimaru-sama's impending transfer of residence, regarding the matter of congratulatory gifts to be presented,
Munenori-sama submitted a formal inquiry (o-ukagai-sho) to the rōjū on duty, Lord Honda Hōki-no-kami (Masayoshi), on the ninth of this month,
through the resident caretaker (o-rusui), Ōtani Ichiemon (Yoshitsugu). In response,
it was directed today, by means of an attached note (o-tsuke-fuda), that
Munenori-sama and O-Yoshimaru-sama should each present one folded arrangement of fresh sea bream to the Kubō-sama [the Shogun], the Ōgosho-sama [the Retired Shogun], and the Dainagon-sama respectively.
Item: Fifteenth day of the twelfth month (around 9 a.m. / five-and-a-half hours). In connection with the same occasion as above,
O-Yoshimaru-sama proceeded from the Hitotsubashi residence to the O-Hon-maru Inner Chambers (Ōoku) for an audience at the castle. (This had been announced on the fourteenth, the previous day, as far as the Hitotsubashi residence.)
To the Kubō-sama [the Shogun]: five rolls of crepe silk (chirimen), one box of kelp, one box of dried sea bream, and one cask of sake were presented.
From the Kubō-sama, by formal inventory (o-mokuroku): one sword (o-katana) personally bestowed by the Shogun's own hand (Kunitsugu, valued at 250 gold pieces, with fittings of three settings in shakudō with the Aoi family crest), one short sword (wakizashi) (Mitsukane, valued at 100 gold pieces, with fittings of two settings in shakudō with the Aoi family crest), and additionally one box containing a censer (blue [glaze, details unclear]) were received as gifts.
Note: Ordinarily, the long abalone (o-naga-awabi) would be received directly from the Shogun's hand, but owing to O-Yoshimaru-sama's young age, this was omitted. At the time of the audience, the long abalone was brought out and then withdrawn. Likewise, the sword and short sword, also due to O-Yoshimaru-sama's young age, were received by formal inventory rather than directly from the Shogun's hand.
To the Dainagon-sama: one box of dried sea bream, one cask of sake, and additionally one box of o-kinchaku (purses/pouches) were presented.
From the Dainagon-sama: one box of an illustrated picture album (O-e-kagami; featuring the Thirty-six Poetry Immortals, painted collaboratively by court nobles) was received as a gift.
To Manjirō-sama: one folded arrangement of fresh sea bream and additionally one box of toys (o-teasobi) were presented. From Manjirō-sama: one folded arrangement of fresh sea bream was received.
To the O-Heya-sama: one folded arrangement of fresh sea bream was presented. From the O-Heya-sama: one folded arrangement of fresh sea bream [was received—text continues on next page].
