一、四月十二日
宗矩様が御国許へお帰りになるための御暇（おいとま）を賜るため、上使として御老中・堀田相模守（正亮）殿がお越しになった折に、御直談（じきだん）があったことにつき、今晩、相模守殿へ御留守居・大谷一右衛門（良次）が遣わされた。先方では用人・春日井庄兵衛が罷り出て、近日中に於義丸様が大奥へ御登城なさるとの御沙汰に際し、御献上物および女中への御贈物等の件について、先年、松平大隅守（吉貴）殿の御嫡子・益之助殿が竹姫君様と御同道にて大奥へ御登城された節の献上の例に準じて、大概（おおよそ）その通りに御支度なさるのがよかろうとの旨を申し聞かされ、以下の書付を御内々に庄兵衛を通じて渡された。

Item: On the 12th day of the 4th month,
The Senior Councilor (rōjū) Hotta Sagami-no-kami (Masasuke) came as a shogunal envoy (jōshi) on the occasion of granting Lord Munenori leave (o-itoma) to return to his home domain. As there was a direct conversation (jikidan) at this time, the resident ambassador (rusui), Ōtani Ichiuemon (Yoshitsugu), was dispatched that evening to call upon Sagami-no-kami. The latter's steward (yōnin), Kasugai Shōbē, came out to receive him and conveyed the following: regarding the forthcoming visit of Lord Ogimaru to the Inner Chambers (Ō-oku), and the matter of presentation gifts for the Shogun and gift items for the ladies-in-waiting, he advised that preparations should generally follow the precedent set some years earlier when Masunosuke, the eldest son of Matsudaira Ōsumi-no-kami (Yoshitaka), had visited the Inner Chambers accompanied by Lady Takehime. A written note detailing that precedent was then conveyed privately through Shōbē, as follows:
