英語訳

Lord Munenori dispatched the castle keeper (go-rusuī) Ōtani Ichiemon (Yoshitsugu), through whom the following written instructions were issued: Tomorrow, the fifteenth day, Lady Ogimaru is to proceed to the Ō-oku (Great Interior) for her castle visit. You yourself are also to present your formal greetings tomorrow. Noshime (formal patterned robes) and long formal hakama (nagabakama) are to be worn. One: The Fifteenth Day of the Fourth Month (at the Hour of the Sheep [approximately 10 a.m.]): Lady Ogimaru, following her relocation, made her first formal visit to the Ō-oku of the Honmaru (Main Keep) to present New Year's greetings (as a belated ceremonial courtesy), accompanied by senior ladies-in-waiting (o-toshiyori) and an escort attendant (o-noriso). She wore noshime (formal patterned robes) and formal hemp kamishimo (upper and lower ceremonial vestments). Note: Two footmen (o-komono) and personal attendants were stationed at the Ō-hiroshiki (outer administrative section), and as they came out to receive her at the palace entrance, [the attendants] proceeded ahead. One: Two footmen and personal attendants were stationed at the bridge approach of the Hirakawa Gate; from the gate, a footman inspector (o-komono-metsuke) took up the hems of her garments and guided [her palanquin] ahead. One: From the Hirakawa Gate to the Ō-hiroshiki Gate, all persons along the way knelt in obeisance (geza). At the gate in front of the Ō-hiroshiki entrance porch, one side of the double doors was opened, and the palanquin entered as far as the stone step of the formal entry (shikidai). One head of the Ō-hiroshiki guard came out to receive [her] as far as the lower board-floored anteroom of the shikidai. From there, the manservants (o-geko) received the palanquin. From the wicket-lock (jōguchi), the junior ladies-in-waiting took charge, and [Lady Ogimaru] was carried by palanquin through the jōguchi and into the large inner sitting room (o-hiroza shiki). Note: It had been planned that she would change into long formal hakama (nagabakama) in the Karako-no-ma (Chinese Children's Room), but as she is still of young age, it was ordered through the senior ladies-in-waiting that she should wear half-length hakama (hambakama) instead.
