In the Audience Chamber (go-taimenjo) of the Ō-oku, at the lower dais (ge-dan), [Lady Ogimaru] presented herself before the Kubō-sama (the Shogun), who graciously responded with the words "It has been a long time." At the upper dais (jō-dan), she received from his hands dried abalone (o-te nagaawabi). Note: The aforementioned Audience Chamber of the Ō-oku is said to be the room where princesses and the consorts (o-misuchū) of the two Lords (go-ryōkyō) are received in audience before the Shogun when they visit the castle. To the Kubō-sama, [Lady Ogimaru] presented: one long sword (tachi), one gold coin in lieu of a horse (o-umashiro), five rolls of crepe silk (chirimen), and from her personal household (go-naishō): one box of kelp (konbu), one box of dried sea bream (hoshi-tai), one cask of sake (o-taru), and additionally one box containing five inrō (medicine cases). From the Kubō-sama, [Lady Ogimaru] received personally from his hands: one short sword (wakizashi) — a blade by Nobukuni, valued at fifteen gold coins — and additionally one folding screen bearing his brush calligraphy (o-fude byōbu). Note: Regarding the receipt of the said wakizashi, it was communicated by Takarada, a senior attendant (o-toshiyori) of the Hitotsubashi household, that this follows the same precedent (go-kakuai) as that of the Lord of Mito. To the Ō-gosho-sama (the Retired Shogun/Senior Lord), through a messenger, [Lady Ogimaru] presented: one long sword, one gold coin in lieu of a horse, and three rolls of crepe silk (this being done on the instructions given on the thirteenth of last month). Note: The presentation from the personal household (go-naishō) was made in accordance with the agreed arrangement, to be offered during her visit to the Ō-oku of the Nishinomaru on the fifteenth day of the coming fifth month. Before the Dainagon-sama, at the lower dais of the said Audience Chamber, [Lady Ogimaru] presented herself and received from his hands dried abalone…
