Lord Yoshimaru, following his relocation (to the Nishi-no-Maru), made his first formal visit to the Ōoku of the Nishi-no-Maru as a New Year's greeting call (oreigoto). (He wore noshime and asa-kamishimo [formal ceremonial dress].) Note: As on the fifteenth of the previous month, a senior lady-in-waiting (otoshiyori) accompanied him in the palanquin. One: Two attendant footmen (okobito) proceeded ahead to the departure point to receive the party. One: One attendant footman each was stationed at the Wadakura Gate, the Sakashita Gate, and the Ura Gate. One: From the Sakashita Gate, one footman (wearing asa-kamishimo, with his hakama tucked up [momotachi]) stood at the front of the palanquin and guided the party as far as the Ohirobiki (the outer administrative area of the Ōoku). One: At the Sakashita Gate and the Ura Gate, one side of the double doors was opened, and both the upper-rank and lower-rank guards took a seated bow (geza), as did all others passing by. Both doors of the Ohirobiki Gate were opened. The head of the Ohirobiki guard, Andō Tarōemon, came to receive the party at the entrance porch (shikidai). From the shikidai, male servants received the palanquin, and from the Jōguchi (the locked inner threshold), junior ladies-in-waiting handled the palanquin, and Lord Yoshimaru was carried by palanquin as far as the inner corridor beyond the Jōguchi. Note: It had been planned that he would change into formal long hakama (nagabakama) at the resting room, but as had been done on the fifteenth of the previous month at the Hon-maru (Main Citadel), this was communicated through a senior lady-in-waiting (rōjochū). Lord Yoshimaru had his formal audience (omemie) with the Ōgosho-sama (the Retired Shogun/Great Lord) at the lower dais (ge-dan), at the third mat, and received words from the Ōgosho (jōi). On the upper dais (jōdan), he received, presented directly from the Ōgosho's own hands, a long dried abalone (naga-awabi) as a gift. </translation_ja>
