現代語訳

兵部大輔に異存がなければ、いよいよ右のお考えをお沙汰として出されることになる。もっとも幼年ではあるが、この時期から（兵部大輔のもとへ）遣わし、家風のとおりに育てれば、かえってよいのではないかと、各々存じる次第である。

一、六月五日、築地の御屋敷へ《割書：一橋御下屋敷》、上使として老中堀田相模守《割書：正亮》殿をもって、左の通り御内意を仰せ出された。

　　　　　男子も出生したことにつき、小五郎殿のことを松平兵部大輔の養子に遣わすよう。

　　　　但し、昨四日、御側御用御取次の薮主計頭殿より、一橋の御家老
　　　　　伊丹兵庫頭へ申し聞かされたことには、先日御内々に仰せ遣わされた件を、近日仰せ出される予定であり、明五日に堀田相模守殿が上使をもって仰せ遣わされる旨を、主計頭が申し聞かせたとのことである。

一、同月十二日、
　宗矩様が御登城《割書：昨日、御老中連名の御切紙が来た》になられたところ、御黒書院溜之間へ、御老中が列座され、御用番の境雅楽頭《割書：忠知》殿より上意の趣を御達しがあった。

　　　　　刑部卿殿の嫡子・小五郎殿を、松平兵部大輔の養子に仰せ付けられた。

If Hyōbudaifu has no objections, this considered intention will finally be issued as a formal directive. Although [Kogorō-dono] is still young, each of us believes that if he is sent [to Hyōbudaifu's household] from this point and raised in accordance with the family's traditions, it may in fact be all the more fitting.

1. On the 5th day of the 6th month, to the Tsukiji residence 《marginal note: the Hitotsubashi lower residence》, Senior Council Member (Rōjū) Hotta Sagami-no-Kami 《marginal note: Masasuke》 was dispatched as a shogunal messenger, and the following confidential communication was conveyed:

　　　　　In view of the birth of a male child [to Hyōbudaifu], Kogorō-dono is to be sent as the adopted son of Matsudaira Hyōbudaifu.

　　　　Note: On the preceding 4th day, Yabu Kazue-no-Kami, the Senior Attendant and Intermediary (O-soba Goyō Toritsugі), had informed Iтami Hyōgo-no-Kami, the chief retainer of Hitotsubashi, that the matter which had been privately communicated some days prior would be formally announced shortly, and that Hotta Sagami-no-Kami would deliver the message as a shogunal envoy on the following 5th day.

1. On the 12th day of the same month,
　Sōnori-sama proceeded to the castle 《marginal note: Yesterday, a written notice (kirigami) jointly signed by the Senior Councilors arrived》, whereupon in the Tamari-no-Ma of the Black Audience Chamber (Kuro Shoin), with the Senior Councilors seated in a row, the Goyōban (duty councilor) Sakai Uta-no-Kami 《marginal note: Tadatomo》 conveyed the content of the shogunal directive.

　　　　　Kogorō-dono, the legitimate son of Gyōbukyō-dono, is hereby appointed as the adopted son of Matsudaira Hyōbudaifu.
