清平調詞　三首　李白

雲に衣裳を想い
花には容を想う
春風檻を払いて露華濃やかなり
若し群玉山頭に見るに非ずんば
必ず瑤台月下に向かいて逢わん

雲を衣装にするのは仙女のことである。これは玄宗皇帝がまた美人を描かせた時のことを言う。雲を見ても花を見ても、このような美人を描きたいと思い暮らしていた折、春風が欄干を吹き払い、天界一の名花の花盛りの露の美しさを見て、このような美人を描きたいと思い暮らした。このような美人はなかなか人間界にはいないだろう。群玉山のほとり、王母が側で見るのでなければ、瑤台の仙女のいる所で会うか。とにかく他では見ることはできないだろう。（詳しくは掌故箋註国字解にある）

Song of Pure Peace (Qingping diao)　Three Poems　Li Bai

In the clouds I think of her robes
In the flowers I think of her face
Spring wind sweeps the balustrade, dew thick on blossoms
If not seen at the peak of Mount Qunyu
Then surely we would meet facing the Jade Terrace under moonlight

To make clouds into clothing refers to celestial maidens. This speaks of when Emperor Xuanzong had beautiful women painted. Whether looking at clouds or flowers, he spent his days wanting to paint such beauties. When the spring wind swept the balustrades and he saw the exquisite dew on the flowers in full bloom—the finest blossoms of heaven—he spent his days wanting to paint such beauties. Such beauties would rarely exist in the human world. Unless the Queen Mother of the West were watching from beside Mount Qunyu, one could only meet them where the celestial maidens of the Jade Terrace dwell. In any case, they cannot be seen elsewhere.
