ぞくしゆくはちゝかたのおぢなりばいは
あいとものふ人なり。とうていにとも〳〵ふ
ねをのりいだしてつくる。かししやじんがしに
こたふるこゝろにていふ。八百里のうし
を【潮】にて。なんてんのはてまて見ゆる
かきりもないひろい事じや。とうてい
こは西のかたそこうがいりながれ南の
かたはなんてんのはてまで見ゆるはな
はだひろい事であるはやひもくれ
ちようさあたりの秋のけしきを
とをく見るにかしが白雲明月（はくうんめいけつ）

現代語訳

族叔刑部侍郎曄及び中書舎人賈至に陪して洞庭湖に遊ぶ

洞庭西に望めば楚江分かれ
水尽きて南天雲を見ず
日落ちて長沙秋色遠し
知らず何れの処にか湘君を弔わん

族叔は父方の叔父である。陪は付き添う人のことである。洞庭に皆で船を乗り出して作る詩である。賈舎人が詩に応えて詠んだものである。「八百里の湖を見渡すと、南天の果てまで見える限りもない広いことだ。洞庭湖は西の方では楚江が入り流れ、南の方では南天の果てまで見える、実に広いことである。もう日も暮れて長沙あたりの秋の景色を遠く見るに、賈至が『白雲明月湘君を弔う』とこのように舟行きしたならば湘君の所へも行きそうなものだ」と言うのに答えて「知らず」何を言うのやら、なかなかどこやら知れぬ広いことだ。

Accompanying Uncle Yao, Vice Minister of Justice, and Jia Zhi, Secretary of the Central Secretariat, on an Excursion to Dongting Lake

Looking west from Dongting, the Chu River divides
Where the waters end and southern sky meets, no clouds are seen
The sun sets over Changsha, autumn colors stretch far
I know not where to pay respects to Lord Xiang

Uncle refers to father's younger brother. "Accompanying" means serving as a companion. This is a poem composed while boating together on Dongting Lake. Secretary Jia composed this in response to a poem. "Gazing across the 800-li lake, it extends endlessly to the southern horizon - how vast it is! Dongting Lake has the Chu River flowing in from the west, and to the south it extends to the horizon - truly expansive. As the sun sets and I gaze distantly at the autumn scenery around Changsha, when Jia Zhi speaks of 'white clouds and bright moon paying respects to Lord Xiang' - if we continue our boat journey like this, we might reach Lord Xiang's dwelling." In response to this, he says "I know not" - what are you saying? It's so vast that one cannot tell where anything is.
