西宮春怨　王昌齢

西宮夜静百花香　欲捲珠簾春恨長
斜抱雲和深見月　朧々樹色隠昭陽

西宮は班婕妤がいる長信宮である。西宮に昭容が一人、夜も静かにしている中、花も盛りに香ばしい。この花を見ようと思い珠簾を巻こうとするけれども気が重く、春の景色を見ても憂いが生じるため放っておく。雲和は琴のこと、物憂い余り、どうにか憂いを散らそうと斜めに身をゆがめながら琴を弾き、簾越しに奥の方より月を見ていると、朧々と薄暗い木の間から昭陽宮が奥深く見える。昭陽宮は趙飛燕が毎夜毎夜皇帝の御寵愛を受け、皇帝が御遊興をなさる処である。そのような処へ今では行くこともできず、御側で寵愛を受けることもない。月もはっきりとは見えないということである。詳しくは掌故にある。

Spring Resentment in the Western Palace by Wang Changling

In the western palace the night is quiet, a hundred flowers fragrant; wanting to roll up the pearl curtain, spring resentment grows long
Leaning sideways holding the cloud-harmony zither, gazing deeply at the moon; through hazy tree shadows, Zhaoyang Palace lies hidden

The Western Palace is the Changxin Palace where Ban Jieyu resides. In the Western Palace, a court lady sits alone. While the night is quiet and flowers bloom fragrantly, she thinks to view these flowers and tries to roll up the pearl curtain, but feels dispirited. Even viewing the spring scenery brings melancholy, so she abandons the attempt. "Cloud-harmony" refers to a zither. Overwhelmed by melancholy, trying somehow to dispel her sorrow, she leans sideways and plays the zither. Looking at the moon through the curtain from the inner quarters, she sees Zhaoyang Palace deep in the distance through the hazy, dim spaces between trees. Zhaoyang Palace is where Zhao Feiyan receives the emperor's favor night after night, where the emperor enjoys his pleasures. To such a place she can no longer go, nor can she receive favor by his side. Even the moon does not appear clearly. Details can be found in historical records.
