現代語訳

西宮秋怨　王昌齢

芙蓉不及美人粧　水殿風来珠翠香
却恨含情掩秋扇　空懸明月待君王

芙蓉の花も美人の化粧には及ばない。君の寵愛が衰えたため、女のことなので言葉では言わずに情を含んでいるが、このように秋扇を覆い隠すように寵愛が衰えている。しかし心の前では明月を掛けたように曇りもない。もしもこの月の夜などに君がお越しになるかもしれないと待っている。詳しくは箋註・掌故にある。

Autumn Resentment in the Western Palace by Wang Changling

The lotus flowers cannot match a beauty's adornment; in the water pavilion the wind brings fragrance of pearls and jade
Yet resentfully holding feelings within, she covers the autumn fan; in vain hanging the bright moon, she waits for her lord

Even the lotus flowers cannot match the beauty's makeup. Because the lord's favor has waned, being a woman's matter, she does not speak in words but contains her emotions within. Like covering and putting away an autumn fan, his affection has grown cold. However, in her heart, like the bright moon hanging clear without clouds, she waits thinking that perhaps on such a moonlit night her lord might come to visit.
