従軍行（じゅうぐんこう）　　　　王昌齢（おうしょうれい）

青海の長雲（せいかいのちょううん）雪山（せつざん）を暗くし、孤城遥かに望む玉門関（ぎょくもんかん）
黄沙（こうしゃ）百戦金甲（きんこう）を穿ち、楼蘭（ろうらん）を破らずんば終に還らず

この城より見れば、ただ茫漠として我が来ているのは蝦夷の地、青海の北なれば雲が長くたなびいて雪山まで真っ黒にして物凄く見える。玉門関は西北の端で遠い処である。それを通ってまた遠いこの辺境の者の入る孤城あたりへ来て、また玉門関を望むさえ遠い。都はいよいよ遠い。砂漠でたびたび合戦があるので鎧を脱ぐ暇もなく、このような状況ではいつ故郷へ帰ることか。大方は楼蘭を破り終わらずば帰らぬであろうが、限りもない事である。

英語訳

Song of Following the Army (Jūgunkō)　　　　By Wang Changling (Ōshōrei)

Long clouds over the blue sea darken the snowy mountains,
From the lonely fortress I gaze far toward Jade Gate Pass.
Through yellow sands and a hundred battles, my golden armor is pierced—
Until Loulan is destroyed, I will never return home.

Looking from this fortress, all is vast and desolate. Having come to this barbarian land north of the blue sea, clouds stretch long and make even the snowy mountains appear completely black and fearsome. Jade Gate Pass is at the northwestern edge, a distant place. Passing through there and coming to this remote frontier where soldiers enter this lonely fortress, even gazing toward Jade Gate Pass seems far away. The capital is ever more distant. Because there are frequent battles in the desert, there is no time to remove one's armor. In such circumstances, when will I return to my homeland? Most likely I will not return until Loulan is completely destroyed, but this seems endless.
